WOMEN’S BASKETBALL REGISTERS 80-66 WIN OVER QUEENS IN HOME OPENER

Syracuse, N.Y. – Five Dolphins scored in double figures as the 19th-ranked Le Moyne College women's basketball team registered an 80-66 win over Queens College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Sophomore guard Cameron Tooley (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) led the Dolphins offensively with 16 points, 13 of which came in the first half, while adding six rebounds and four assists. Redshirt junior guard Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) scored 12 of her 15 points in the first half. Senior guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored all 14 of her points in the final 15:43 of the game, while adding seven assists and six rebounds. Senior forward Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) posted 13 points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward Emma Brinker (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) tallied 11 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Raiana Brown led the Knights in the setback with a double-double of 18 points, including 10 in the second half, and 13 rebounds. Zorria West recorded 14 points and six rebounds, including five on the offensive end. Brianne Moxley totaled 12 points, four assists and four rebounds. Harmony Philo was the fourth Knight in double figures with 11 points.

The Dolphins jumped out to a 5-2 lead through two minutes and still led 12-9 with 4:26 left before Queens scored six straight points to take its largest lead of the game, 15-12, with 2:32 to go in the quarter. Moxley made a pair of shots around a lay-up by Brown.

Le Moyne answered with 10 straight points to take the lead for good. Corcoran made a lay-up, Millea hit a three-pointer and then Tooley made back-to-back lay-ups and added a free throw for a 22-15 lead with 16 seconds left in the quarter.

West made a lay-up just prior to the quarter ending to get the Knights within 22-17 after 10 minutes of play.

The Dolphins scored seven of the first nine points of the second quarter to take their first double-digit lead of the game. Tooley and classmate Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) made lay-ups before Tooley drained a three-pointer.

After Queens pulled within 31-23 with 4:45 left in the half, the Dolphins scored five straight points for their largest lead of the half, 36-23, with 3:45 to go. Corcoran finished off a feed from Tooley, who followed with another three-pointer.

The Knights scored the last seven points of the half to get within 36-30 at the intermission. Chidinma Ndukauba made a jumper, Nora Gabel converted two foul shots and Philo completed the half's scoring with a three-pointer.

Queens extended its run to 12-1 with five of the first six points of the third quarter. Moxley and West scored in the paint and then West later added a free throw.

The Dolphins scored the next six points, but Queens countered with a 7-2 run to get within four for the final time, 46-42, with 4:40 left.

Le Moyne put together a 12-4 run over 3:02 to take a 12-point advantage with 1:38 left. Roberts scored five of the points, while junior guard Gabriella Badway (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Corcoran made lay-ups and junior forward Madison Shetrom (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) capped the streak by drilling a three-pointer.

Queens closed out the quarter with an 8-4 spurt to trim its deficit to 62-54 after 30 minutes of play. Moxley made a jumper and then Philo and Gabel knocked down three-pointers.

After the Knights scored four of the first six points of the fourth quarter, the Dolphins scored 16 of the last 24 points. Corcoran started the run with a lay-up, Brinker (6) and Roberts (5) combined for the next 11 and then Tooley ended the game's scoring with a three-pointer.

Le Moyne (2-2) returns to action on Tuesday at Roberts Wesleyan College at 6:30 p.m.
