VOLLEYBALL CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH 3-1 WIN OVER SAINT ROSE

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College volleyball team registered a 3-1 win over The College of Saint Rose in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court. Prior to the match, the Dolphin Athletic Association honored senior libero Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home), senior middle blocker Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) and redshirt senior middle blocker Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas/L.D. Bell) for their contributions to the program.

With the victory, the Dolphins will finish in a four-way tie for sixth place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings at 7-6 with Adelphi University, Franklin Pierce University and then either Southern Connecticut State University or Southern New Hampshire University. The Owls and Penmen conclude the regular season on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. If Southern Connecticut State wins, the Dolphins will be in the conference championship as the sixth seed. If Southern New Hampshire wins, the Dolphins will not be in the conference championship, which begins on Tuesday. The conference office will announce the championship seedings following the conclusion of the match between the Owls and the Penmen.

After back-and-forth action over the first 23 points of the match, the Dolphins used a 7-1 run to take control of the first set. The Golden Knights closed within on, but Le Moyne scored seven of the last nine points to take the set, 25-19. After the teams split the first 20 points of the second set, the Golden Knights scored four straight points and seven of the next 10 to open up a lead. The Dolphins battled back to tie the score at 22, but Saint Rose closed out the set with the final three points. Following a 3-2 lead for the Golden Knights in the third set, Le Moyne rattled off six straight points and nine of the next 10 to take an 11-4 lead. Saint Rose scored the next three points, but the Dolphins gradually pulled away for a 25-14 win to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Saint Rose jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the third set. After the teams went back-and-forth over the next 21 points, which resulted in a 19-15 Saint Rose lead, the Dolphins scored nine of the next 10 points to get within match point. Saint Rose scored the next three points to get within 24-23, but the Dolphins landed a kill to end the match.

Freshman outside hitter Madeleine Kennedy (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) led three Dolphins with double-digit kills with 14, while adding six digs. Sophomore outside hitter Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) posted 11 kills in her time on the court. Sophomore middle blocker Lexi Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) hit .300 en route to 10 kills. Junior setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) recorded her team-best ninth double-double of the year with 38 assists and 14 digs to go along with six kills and three service aces. Hiwiller registered a match-high 22 digs and had five assists and two service aces. Sophomore defensive specialist Emily Mosack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) posted 12 digs.

Stevie Schweitzer led the Golden Knights in the loss with a double-double of 14 kills and 19 digs. Kyla Archie tallied 10 kills, six block assists and five digs. Valeria Jorge and Allison Sellers split the setting duties with 21 and 17 assists, respectively, while Jorge added seven digs, four kills, four block assists and three service aces. Tina Ceriello led the Golden Knights defensively with 22 digs and added four assists.
