Syracuse, N.Y. – Ruben Faria scored in the final minutes of the first half to lead fifth-seeded Assumption College to a 2-0 win over the fourth-seeded Le Moyne College men's soccer team in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
Le Moyne, which has dropped four straight home postseason tournament games after going nine years without a home postseason loss (6-0-2 in the span), falls to 11-6-1 on the season and now awaits word on whether it will earn one of 10 berths to the NCAA Championships Atlantic/East Super Regional, which will be announced on the evening of Monday, November 18. In the second regional rankings of the season released this past Wednesday, the Dolphins were ranked ninth.
The Dolphins had the game's first scoring chance, but their shot in the second minute hit off the crossbar.
Assumption had the first shot on goal of the game in the 22nd minute, but it was saved.
The Greyhounds capitalized on their next shot on target by tallying the only goal they would need. After collecting a pass from the left endline in the middle of the penalty box, Jeremy Martin sent a pass back to Faria, who blasted a shot from 25 yards out into the right side of the net at the 43:24 mark for his second goal of the season.
The Dolphins had a shot attempt 30 seconds later, but it went wide right.
Assumption doubled its lead on the first shot on goal of the second half. Off a corner kick by Alex Moschella from the right side, Nicholas Cardona headed the ball into the upper right corner of the net from the top of the goal box at the 57:59 mark for his second tally of the year.
Le Moyne put a shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but it was right at the goalkeeper for the easy save.
The Dolphins had one final shot on goal with 3:58 remaining, but it was turned away by the goalkeeper.

Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) recorded two saves in suffering his second straight loss. Sebastian Jimenez made a pair of saves in the victory. Le Moyne posted a 15-9 advantage in shots, including 9-5 in the first half, while Assumption recorded a 5-2 edge in corner kicks, including 4-2 in the second half.
