WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WINS 22ND STRAIGHT OVER MANSFIELD, 57-32

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) registered her fourth career double-double to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 57-32 victory over Mansfield University in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The 32 points allowed are tied for the eighth-fewest in a game in the program's history and are the second-fewest allowed against an NCAA Division II program (behind only the 28 allowed to New Haven last March in the NE10 semifinals).

Zimmerman led all scorers in the contest with a season-best 17 points (tied for the second-most in her career) and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season and the fifth of her career, while adding a career high-tying five blocked shots. Redshirt junior guard Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) scored seven of her 12 points in the second half, while senior guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied seven of her 10 points in the second half to go along with six assists. With her first point of the second half, a free throw with 8:43 left in the third quarter, Roberts passed Courtney Coryea '10 for fifth place on the program's scoring chart with her 1448th point.

Chelsea Cover was the only Mountaineer to score in double figures with 10 points, eight of which came in the second half.

The Dolphins opened the game with the first seven points and led 17-4 after eight minutes of play. Six different Dolphins accounted for the 17 points, led by five points from Zimmerman.

Kira Merritt hit a three-pointer with 1:09 left to get the Mounties within 17-7 after one quarter of play.

The teams traded points in the second quarter as Le Moyne's lead bounced between eight and 11 points and settled at eight at halftime, 24-16, following a lay-up at the buzzer by Merritt.

Following 5-0 runs by each team in the opening minutes of the third quarter, Zimmerman and Millea drained three-pointer in a span of four possessions to give the Dolphins their first 12-point lead of the game at 35-23 with 5:29 to go in the quarter.

Cover scored five straight points and Jasmine Perez answered another Zimmerman three-pointer with a basket in the paint to get the Mountaineers within 38-30 after three quarters of play.

After each team scored two points in the opening 90 seconds of the fourth quarter, the Dolphins scored the last 17 points of the game. The Dolphins also held Saint Rose scoreless over the final 8:30 of the game on November 26. Five Dolphins tallied the 17 points, led by five points each from Zimmerman and Roberts.

Le Moyne (6-4), which has won 22 straight games over the Mountaineers and 28 of 29 games overall in the series, concludes the 2019 portion of its schedule on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. against fourth-ranked Ashland University, which is 110-4 since the start of the 2016-17 season, including winning the 2017 national championship at 37-0.
