WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO COLGATE, 5-2

Hamilton, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team fell to Colgate University, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Sanford Field House.

Colgate picked up the point in the doubles competition with wins at the second and third spots. At the second position, Lauren O'Brien and Madi Kiani recorded a 6-1 win over sophomore Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and freshman Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd). Callie Bartimer and Elizabeth Laub also recorded a 6-1 victory at the third spot over freshman Brianna Laureti (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) and Maggie Scanlon (Orchard Park, N.Y./Nardin Academy). Sophomore Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and freshman Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) edged MacKenzie Deeter and Jordan Williams at the first position, 7-6.
 
The Raiders won four of the matches in the singles competition to claim the victory. At the top spot, Deeter was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Nunez. Williams topped Humala at the third position, 6-2, 6-1. In the only three-set match of the day, Kiani defeated Laureti, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, at the fourth spot. Bartimer closed out the match with an 8-1 win over Scanlon at the sixth position. The Dolphins claimed the point at the second spot as Oz defeated O'Brien, 6-3, 7-6. Fernandez improved to 5-0 in dual matches with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Elinor Simek at the fifth position.
 
Le Moyne (13-6) closes out its regular season on Friday against Niagara University at 6:30 p.m. at Elevate Fitness in Liverpool. Prior to the match, senior Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for her contributions to the program.
