Liverpool, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team dropped its season finale to Niagara University, 6-1, on Friday evening at Elevate Fitness.
Niagara picked up the point in the doubles competition with victories in all three matches. At the first spot, Chhinda Som and Andreea Peteu earned a 7-6 (7-3) victory over senior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS). In the second position, sophomore
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain) and freshman
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) fell 6-2 to Shannon Wong and Megan Gamble. At the third spot, the team of Olga Donchu and Ali Hutchinson defeated sophomore
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and freshman
Brianna Laureti (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) 6-1.
The Purple Eagles won five singles matches to clinch a victory. In the first spot, Som topped Hamdan 6-3, 6-4. In the third spot, Wong won 6-2, 6-1 over Nunez. Donchu topped Humala 6-2, 6-0 at the fourth position, while Gamble out lasted Laureti at the fifth spot, 6-0, 4-6, 10-7. In the sixth singles match, Erika Gonzalez beat Fernandez 8-6. Le Moyne claimed its point at the second position as Oz defeated Peteu 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (4-7), 11-9.
The Dolphins close out their schedule with a 13-7 record. Prior to the match, Hamdan was honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for her contributions to the program over the last two seasons.
