Greensburg, Pa. – Right fielder Dominic Hardaway went 3-for-3 to lead Millersville University to a 7-2 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Sunday afternoon at Seton Hill University.
The Marauders opened the game's scoring with the only runs they would need. Center fielder Cole Friese led off with an infield single and second baseman Kaylor Kulina followed with a single to center field. After each runner stole a base, catcher Ben Snyder lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in Friese. Hardaway followed with a double to right center to knock in Kulina, while coming around to score on a single up the middle by designated hitter Luke Trainer.
Millersville extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the third. Kulina was hit by a pitch to start the frame, stole second, took third on a groundout and scored on a single through the left side by Hardaway.
The Dolphins got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with two runs on four hits. Sophomore right fielder
Michael Smith (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) and senior left fielder
David DiNorcia (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) recorded singles with two outs and freshman second baseman
Drew Carroll (Clifton Park, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Albany)) followed with a walk to load the bases. Junior center fielder
Justin Tuey (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) then singled through the right side to plate Smith and DiNorcia.
The Marauders completed the game's scoring with three runs on two hits in the sixth inning. Shortstop Eric Callahan singled to left to start the frame, stole second and moved to third on a groundout. After a walk and stolen bases by Miller, Friese launched a three-run homer for a 7-2 lead.
Freshman
Ryan DuBord (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook) suffered his first collegiate loss after yielding four runs and six hits over three innings. Cordell Shannon collected his fourth win of the season after striking out six over five and one-third innings. Bobby Dorta tossed the final three and two-thirds innings and struck out six to record his first save of the year.
Le Moyne (7-11) is scheduled to open its home slate on Friday at 12:00 p.m. with a doubleheader against Stonehill College. The twinbill was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was moved to Friday in an effort to have the games played.
