Philadelphia, Pa. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team earned its first road victory of the season, 6-1, over the University of the Sciences on Sunday afternoon at the Hamlin Center.
The Dolphins took a 1-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the third position, senior
Andres Hernandez (Monterrey, Mexico/Laurel Springs/Texas Rio Grande Valley) and freshman
Gerardo Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/Apostille School) recorded a 7-5 win over Borna Novak and Evan Halperin. Seniors
Xavier Graells (Castellar del Vallès, Spain/IES Castellar/Harford Community College) and
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) clinched the point by defeating Borna Markusic and Sahas Chandragiri at the second spot, 7-6 (9-7). Sophomore
Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and junior
Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) completed the sweep with a 7-6 (7-1) win at the first position over Nathan Nguyen and Jack Kosiorowski.
Le Moyne captured five of the six matches in the singles competition. Graduate student
Sven Gopfrich (Erlangen, Germany/Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium Erlangen/Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg) gave the Dolphins a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the sixth spot over Halperin. Graells followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the fifth position over Chandragiri. Hernandez clinched the match for the Dolphins with back-to-back 6-1 wins over Novak at the third spot. Jarry moved to 7-2 on the year by posting a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the first position over Markusic. Blythe rallied at the second spot against Kosiorowski for a 2-6, 6-1, 10-5. Nguyen earned the lone point for the Devils with consecutive 6-3 scores against sophomore
Christian Erickson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) at the fourth position.
Le Moyne (6-4) starts the semester's conference action on Saturday at Adelphi University at 2:00 p.m.
