WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SETS SINGLE-SEASON WINS RECORD WITH 74-63 VICTORY OVER MERRIMACK IN NE10 QUARTERFINALS

Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored 29 points to lead the top-seeded Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 74-63 win over fourth-seeded Merrimack College in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.

With the victory, Le Moyne's program-record 22nd of the season, the Dolphins advance to the NE10 semifinals for the third consecutive year and will host the University of New Haven, the Southwest Division's third seed, on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The previous single-season wins record of 21 was set by the 1994-95 team.

Roberts tallied 18 of her game-high point total in the second half, including 10 of her team's 14 points in the fourth quarter, while dishing out nine assists (against just one turnover) and grabbed five rebounds. In three career NE10 quarterfinal games, all Dolphin wins, Roberts has averaged 24 points and is 13-of-21 from three-point range. Freshman forward Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) recorded 11 of her 17 points in the first quarter, while posting five rebounds, four blocks and three assists. Redshirt sophomore guard Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) went 4-of-5 from three-point range en route to 16 points, while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists. Graduate student forward Corinne Poitevien (Bardonia, N.Y./Paramus Catholic (N.J.)) posted eight points, eight rebounds and three blocks. With her fifth rebound of the game, Poitevien became the 20th player in the program's history to grab 500 career rebounds.

Alyssa Casey led the Warriors offensively with 17 points, 15 of which came in the fourth quarter on 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Denia Davis-Stewart recorded a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds, while blocking five shots. Mayson Kimball also posted 14 points for the Warriors and had three rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.

After Davis-Stewart made a jumper with 5:57 left in the first quarter to get the Warriors within 9-6 the Dolphins scored 11 of the next 15 points to take their first double-digit lead of the game. Zimmerman scored seven of the points, while Roberts had a jumper and freshman guard Erin Fouracre (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie Central) knocked down a jumper in the paint.

Lexi Martin and Roberts traded jumpers in the final 66 seconds of the quarter as the Dolphins took a 22-12 lead after one quarter of play.

After Davis-Stewart started the scoring in the second quarter, the Dolphins rattled off eight straight points as Millea buried a pair of three-pointers around a lay-up by Zimmerman.

Merrimack scored eight of the next 12 points to get within 34-22 with 2:32 left in the half. Kimball scored all eight of the points with a three-pointer, two free throws and a conventional three-point play.

Le Moyne countered with seven straight points to take its largest lead of the half.
