MEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO QUEENS, 5-2

Flushing, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team suffered its first regional loss of the season, 5-2, to Queens College on Friday night at the QC Tennis Center.

The Dolphins started the scoring first by gaining the point in the doubles competition. At the top position, sophomore Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and junior Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) registered a 6-3 win over Cosme Jubera and Lucas Demuth. Senior Andres Hernandez (Monterrey, Mexico/Laurel Springs/Texas Rio Grande Valley) and freshman Gerardo Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/Apostille School) also were 6-3 winners at the third spot over Camilo Arias and Nick Volos. Kareem Rashad and Richard Sec prevented the sweep by the Dolphins with a 6-4 win at the second position over seniors Xavier Graells (Castellar del Vallès, Spain/IES Castellar/Harford Community College) and Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa).

Queens claimed five of the six matches in the singles competition to capture the victory. At the first spot, Jubera rallied to beat Jarry, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6. After dropping the first set, Rashad got the point at the second position after Blythe committed unsportsmanlike conduct. Sec posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the third spot over Hernandez. At the fourth position, Demuth topped sophomore Christian Erickson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), 6-2, 6-4. Jose Zurro won the point at the sixth spot over graduate student Sven Gopfrich (Erlangen, Germany/Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium Erlangen/Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg), 6-1, 6-2. Graells earned Le Moyne's second point with a 7-6, 6-4 victory at the fifth position over Mariano Biblioni.

Le Moyne (4-2) is back on the courts on Saturday against NYIT at SPORTIME in Bethpage, N.Y. at 5:15 p.m.
