SOFTBALL CLOSES OUT HOME SCHEDULE WITH 4-2 WIN OVER SAINT ROSE

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College softball team used a pair of two-run innings to defeat The College of Saint Rose on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

Le Moyne started the scoring with two runs in the second inning. After redshirt junior third baseman Chelsie Delperuto (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay/UMBC) reached second on a throwing error by the second baseman with one out, she scored on a single by senior left fielder Madison DeRita (Higganum, Conn./Mercy). Sophomore catcher Olivia Littman (Newfane, N.Y./Newfane) followed with a single to left field and took second on the throw home to keep DeRita at third. Following an out and a walk to load the bases, sophomore shortstop Kaily LaForce (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) singled up the middle to drive in DeRita.

The Dolphins used the long ball to add a pair of runs in the third inning. Senior center fielder Lauren Zazzaro (Southington, Conn./Southington) led off the frame with a home run to center field. The homer gives Zazzaro three straight games with a round-tripper. Junior designated player Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) followed with a home run to center field of her own.

Saint Rose scored twice in the seventh inning, but left the tying runner stranded on base. Left fielder Astasia Myler led off with a single to right center and moved to third on a one-out single by catcher Katie Drogo. Following a walk to load the bases and a pop out, pitcher/designated player Samantha Allen singled to left center to drive in Myler and Drogo. The next batter flew out to center to end the game.

Sophomore righty Lauren Nichols (Syracuse, N.Y./Solvay) earned her 12th win of the season after striking out seven, while yielding two runs. Delperuto and Littman each recorded two hits in the contest. Allen took the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) over four innings.

Le Moyne (21-15, 13-6 NE10, 11-4 SW) returns to action on Friday for a doubleheader at Adelphi University at 1:00 p.m. The Dolphins need to sweep the three-game series (game three is on Saturday at 12) with the Panthers to claim the Southwest Division's second seed in the NE10 Championships or else the Dolphins will be the third seed and host the fourth seed in a first round game on Tuesday.
