WOMEN’S TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH 7-0 WIN OVER UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team opened its season with a 7-0 win over the University of the Sciences on Saturday afternoon.

The Dolphins won two of the three matches in the doubles competition to earn the first point of the afternoon. Freshman Marta Perez Fernandez (Vigo, Spain/Northside Christian School (Fla.)) and sophomore Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) earned the first win of the day with a 6-2 victory at the third spot over Julia James and Han Le. Sophomore Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) and freshman Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win at the first position over Karla Miletic and Myra Anwar. Stephanie Mazurek and Danielle Paran prevented the sweep with a 6-4 win at the second spot over juniors Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.).
 
Le Moyne won each match in the singles competition to complete the sweep. Junior Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) gave the Dolphins a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the sixth spot over Le. Lilliegren picked up her first collegiate singles win, 6-4, 6-2, at the fourth position over Anwar. Nunez, a 35-match winner her first two years, clinched the match by winning at the second spot as Paran retired after trailing 7-6, 1-0. Perez Fernandez collected her first collegiate singles victory, 6-0, 4-6, 6-0, over James at the fifth position. Oz, a 14-match winner last year, defeated Miletic at the top spot, 6-2, 7-5. Peters opened her Le Moyne career with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 win at the third position over Mazurek.
 
Le Moyne (1-0) is back on the courts on Sunday at Chestnut Hill College at 1:00 p.m.
