Philadelphia, Pa. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team registered a 6-1 victory over Chestnut Hill College on Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins took two of the three matches in the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead in the match. At the third spot, junior
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and sophomore
Brianna Laureti (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) won by default as Chestnut Hill was unable to fill the position. Sophomore
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) and freshman
Marta Perez Fernandez (Vigo, Spain/Northside Christian School (Fla.)) clinched the doubles point by registering a 6-0 victory at the second position over Gianna Vassalluzzo and Nicole Yang. Mia Covic and Barbara Broville edged juniors
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and
Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.), 7-6, at the first spot.
Le Moyne was victorious in five of the six matches in the singles competition. Laureti won by default at the sixth spot due to the Griffins being unable to fill the spot. Perez Fernandez gave the Dolphins a 3-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Vassalluzzo at the fourth position. Freshman
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) clinched the match with back-to-back wins of 6-0 at the third spot against Yang. Humala pushed the lead to 4-0 by topping Mariana Sanchez at the fifth position, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) registered the team's third 6-0, 6-0 win of the afternoon at the top spot against Covic. Broville earned Chestnut Hill's point with a 6-0, 7-5 win at the second position over Nunez.
Le Moyne (2-0) returns to action at the ITA East Regional Friday through Sunday at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
