WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS AT STONEHILL, 61-55

Easton, Mass. – Kayla Raymond scored 19 points to lead Stonehill College to a 61-55 win over the Le Moyne College women's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.

Senior guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) led the Dolphins offensively with 20 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and eight assists, while adding three steals. With her 35th of 40 minutes played in the game, Roberts passed Courtney Coryea '10 for the second-most minutes played in the program's history and is currently at 3589 minutes over 102 games. Redshirt junior guard Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) was the only other Dolphin in double figures with 14 points, including seven in the third quarter.

Raymond, the NE10 Rookie of the Year last season, had 11 of her season-high point total in the first half, while adding seven rebounds. Madison Seymour came off the bench to score 10 points, while Gabrielle Reuter grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

After the teams split the first 10 points of the game, the Skyhawks rattled off 11 of the next 13 points. Emily Bramanti scored four of the points, while three others scored in the span.

Kelsey Shaw made a lay-up with six seconds left in the first quarter to give Stonehill an 18-10 lead after 10 minutes of play.

The Dolphins got within seven on a pair of occasions in the first two minutes of the second quarter, but Seymour hit a three-pointer to give the Skyhawks their largest lead of the game with 7:50 to go.

Le Moyne closed within six twice over the next four and one-half minutes, but Stonehill scored four points in the last 20 seconds of the half, including a buzzer-beating lay-up by Raymond, to take a 32-22 lead into halftime.

Following baskets by each team over the first 90 seconds of the third quarter, Le Moyne put together a 15-4 run to take its first lead since the opening minutes of the game. Sophomore forward Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) started the run with a lay-up, Roberts and Millea followed with five points each and then sophomore guard Erin Fouracre (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie Central) recorded a conventional three-point play to put the Dolphins in front, 39-38, with 17.6 seconds left.

Grace Carter countered with a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Skyhawks a 41-39 lead after three quarters of play.

Roberts started the scoring in the fourth quarter with two free throws, but Stonehill answered with an 8-2 to regain control of the game. Seymour drilled a pair of three-pointers around a jumper by Millea and then Raymond made a lay-up for a 49-43 lead with 5:57 to play.

Following a three-pointer by Roberts to cut the margin in half, Raymond made a three-pointer and Sophie Glidden followed with a lay-up to put Stonehill back up by eight, 54-46, with 3:21 remaining.

Fouracre, Zimmerman and Roberts made lay-ups to get the Dolphins within 54-52 with 1:09 left, but that's as close as the Dolphins would get the remainder of the game.

Stonehill went 7-of-8 from the foul line over the final 31 seconds to put the game away.
