WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT MEETING WITH BENTLEY, 69-55

Syracuse, N.Y. – Redshirt junior guard Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) hit a program record-tying seven three-pointers to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 69-55 victory over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday evening at Ted Grant Court.

Millea finished the contest with a career high-tying 23 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Her seven three-pointers are the sixth time a Dolphin has made seven in a game, with four of the six coming in the team's last five games. Senior guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) tallied 21 points, including 16 in the first half, while dishing out five assists and posting three steals. Roberts, who started her 106th career game, which tied Courtney Coryea '10 M'11 for the most in the program's history, now has 1671 points in her career, just five behind Jennifer Shea '89 for the most in the program's history. With four three-pointers in the contest, Roberts now has 273 in her career, just two behind Assumption's Stacy Mattioli '01 for the second-most in the history of the Northeast-10 and four behind American International's Megan Ladley '05 for the most in the NE10's history. Senior forward Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) recorded her second career double-double with 11 points, including eight in the first half, and 10 rebounds, including nine in the second half, while adding two blocks. Sophomore forward Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) pulled down a game-best 13 rebounds to go with seven points, five assists, three steals and two blocks.

Bentley, which received 17 points in this week's WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, was led offensively by Ella Thompson, who scored 18 points, including 11 in the first half. Monica Viapiano tallied 14 points and pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, while Megan Lewis had nine of her 12 points in the first half.

Le Moyne opened the game with the first 15 points by making its first five attempts from three-point range. Millea started the scoring, Zimmerman followed with another three-pointer and then Corcoran buried a trifecta from the right wing at the 8:02 mark to force a Bentley timeout. Millea and Corcoran followed with their second three-pointers for a 15-0 lead after 3:15 of play.

Bentley answered with a 14-5 run to get within six with 2:28 left in the opening quarter. Viapiano scored in the paint, Lewis netted five straight points, Maddy Springfield scored in the paint, Thompson drilled her first three-pointer and then Viapiano made a lay-up.

Roberts scored five straight points to put the Dolphins back up by 11, but Viapiano scored in the paint and Thompson hit another three-pointer to get the Falcons within 25-19 after one quarter of play.

After Thompson and Roberts traded three-pointers to start the second quarter, Lewis scored in the paint to get the Falcons within four, but that is as close as they would get the remainder of the game.

Le Moyne countered with 11 of the next 13 points to extend its lead back to 13 with 3:16 left in the half. Roberts drilled another three-pointer and then Millea hit back-to-back triples to give the Dolphins a 37-26 lead and force a Bentley timeout with 6:31 to go.  After 3:15 of scoreless play, Roberts scored in the paint for the 13-point advantage.

Bentley scored four of the last six points of the half to get within 41-30 at halftime.

Sophomore guard Erin Fouracre (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie Central) started the scoring in the third quarter with a three-pointer at the 7:05 mark for a 44-30 lead.

The teams then traded runs as Bentley got within 10 before Le Moyne pushed its lead back to 13, while the Falcons countered with four points to get within single digits for the only time in the quarter.

Le Moyne scored four of the last six points of the third for a 53-42 advantage after 30 minutes of action.

After Viapiano scored on the first possession of the fourth quarter to get the Falcons within nine for the final time, the Dolphins rattled off eight straight points over two minutes. Zimmerman had a put-back lay-up, Millea drilled a three-pointer to force a Bentley timeout with 7:40 left and then hit another with 6:19 to go to put the Dolphins up a game-high 17 at 61-44.

Bentley got three-pointers from three different players and a basket in the paint from Thompson around a jumper by Roberts and four points from Fouracre to get within 67-55, but Millea finished off the game's scoring with a turnaround jumper just outside the paint.

Le Moyne (12-7, 8-4 NE10), which has won three straight games over Bentley after winning just three of the first 33 matchups, finishes out NE10 crossover action on Saturday at Assumption College at 1:30 p.m.
