WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CRUISES TO 79-47 WIN OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior guard McKayla Roberts (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Le Moyne College women's basketball team to a 79-47 win over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Roberts recorded 12 of her game-best point total in the second half to lead four Dolphins in double figures, while dishing out seven assists. Sophomore forward Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) tallied 18 points, including 13 in the second half, three rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Freshman guard Lytoya Baker (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) scored a career-best 13 points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds, including four on the offensive end. Sophomore guard Erin Fouracre (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie Central) posted a season-high 10 points for the second straight game.

Destine Perry led the Yellow Jackets in the loss with 15 points, including 10 in the second quarter. Nadia Wooten and Rashana Siders each posted 10 points.

After Siders made a three-pointer for a 5-3 lead for the Yellow Jackets, the Dolphins scored 10 of the next 12 points to take the lead for good. Baker scored five of the 10 points in the span.

Perry drained a three-pointer as time expired to get AIC within 13-10 after one quarter.

Le Moyne opened the second quarter with the first five points on a lay-up by Zimmerman and a three-pointer by Roberts.

Following a basket by Fouracre, Perry hit back-to-back three-pointers to get the Yellow Jackets within 20-18 with 5:22 left, but that's as close as they would get the remainder of the game.

The Dolphins responded with an 11-2 run to take a 31-20 lead into halftime. Junior forward Madison Shetrom (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), Zimmerman and Fouracre hit consecutive three-pointers and then Roberts closed out the half with a pair of free throws.

The Dolphins started the third quarter the same as the second with a lay-up by Zimmerman and a three-pointer by Roberts. Following a three-pointer by Siders, senior forward Colleen Corcoran (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) and redshirt junior guard Liz Millea (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) converted lay-ups to put the Dolphins up 40-23 with 6:35 left in the quarter.

American International countered with a 9-2 spurt to get back within 10. Wooten scored in the paint and hit a three-pointer, Perry made a lay-up and then Siders converted a fast-break lay-up.

Le Moyne answered with nine straight points to take its largest lead of the quarter as Zimmerman, Baker and Shetrom drilled consecutive three-pointers.

Wooten made a three-pointer and a lay-up in the final 50 seconds of the quarter to get the Yellow Jackets within 51-37 after three quarters.

The Dolphins rattled off 19 of the first 23 points in the fourth quarter to blow the game open. Zimmerman had eight of the points, Millea scored six and Roberts had five.

Following four points from each team, Baker made a three-pointer and a lay-up to give the Dolphins their largest lead of the game, 79-45, while Jayla McDuffie closed out the scoring with a lay-up.

Le Moyne (7-5, 3-2 NE10) returns to action on Wednesday at Pace University at 5:30 p.m.
