Washington, D.C. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team opened its season with a 7-0 win over the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon at WTEF-East Campus.
The Dolphins took a 1-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles competition. Freshman
Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School) and sophomore
Gerardo Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/Apostille School) earned the first win of the match by defeating Jake Bedforth and Wilson Cano at the third spot, 6-1. Juniors
Jared Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) and
James Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the second position over Juan Estevez Hernandez and Maksim Bahdanovich. Junior
Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and senior
Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) completed the sweep with a 6-3 win over Kostiantyn Kalchev and Louis Mangeon at the first spot.
The Dolphins swept the singles competition to close out the 7-0 win. Wibmer blanked Bedforth at the fifth spot, 6-0, 6-0, while freshman
Erik Adler (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria College) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Cano at the sixth position.
James Howard clinched the match for the Dolphins with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the fourth spot over Bahdanovich. Blythe earned his 41st career victory – the second-most by a Dolphin over the last 15 years – 6-2, 6-0, over Kalchev at the first position.
Jared Howard won his Dolphin debut, 6-1, 5-7, 10-7, at the second spot over Mangeon. Miller won his first collegiate match, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7, over Hernandez at the third position.
Le Moyne (1-0) is back on the courts on Sunday against Bloomsburg University at 10:00 a.m. at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
