MEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAM PLACES THIRD, WOMEN FIFTH AT NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

Worcester, Mass. – Senior Matthew Walton (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) registered seven top-five finishes to lead the Le Moyne College men's swimming and diving team to a third-place finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships hosted by Assumption College at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Sports & Recreation Center from Thursday to Sunday. Junior Haley Synan (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) collected 43 points to lead the women's team to a fifth-place finish.

In the men's team competition, Le Moyne registered 407 points to place third for the seventh time in the last eight years. Bentley University captured its third conference title in four years with 815.5 points. Southern Connecticut State University placed second for the second straight year with 584.5 points. Pace University finished fourth for the fourth time in five years with 338 points. Saint Michael's College placed fifth with 261 points, while The College of Saint Rose tallied 238 points to finish sixth and Adelphi University rounded out the standings with 197 points.
 
On the women's side, Le Moyne registered 348 points to place fifth for the fourth time in the last five years. Southern Connecticut State University won its 13th team championship by recording 863 points. Assumption College, last year's champion, placed second with 830.5. Bentley University finished in third place with 703.5 points, while Pace University tallied 415 points to place fourth. The College of Saint Rose followed the Dolphins in sixth with 326.5 points. Adelphi University finished seventh with 315.5 points and Saint Michael's College rounded out the standings with 173 points.
 
The team of junior Austin Richardson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego), sophomores Alex Turczyn (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Brandon Bardin (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and senior Colin McCormick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) placed fourth in the championship-opening 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:18.28.

The quartet of Walton, sophomore Joe Trembley (Canajoharie, N.Y./Canajoharie), freshman Charles Morris (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and junior Nathan Gdula (Warners, N.Y./West Genesee) earned a bronze medal in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.48, the program's best time since 2016.

Walton, Bardin and Morris teamed with senior Michael Dierolf (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) to place third in the 400-yard medley in 3:26.05. The quartet finished fourth in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:34.93.

Walton, Trembley, Morris and Richardson won the bronze medal in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:07.94, the program's best time since 2017.

Individually, Walton collected 32 points off three top-five finishes. He registered a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard IM in a career-best 1:54.62. On Saturday night, he placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best 1:42.49, becoming just the third Dolphin to go under 1:43. He closed out his performance at the championship with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.32 seconds, the second-fastest time of his career.

Morris, who earned 30 points at the championship, collected 10 points in the 50-yard freestyle with a fifth-place finish in a career-best 21.04 seconds, just the fourth Dolphin to go that fast. After setting the program record of 57.28 seconds in the prelims, Morris placed fifth in the finals of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.76 seconds, the fourth-fastest time in the program's history. He tallied his third fifth-place finish with a time of 46.43 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.

Dierolf opened his performance at the championship with an 11th-place finish in the 200-yard IM in 1:59.77. On Saturday night, he placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.63 seconds, the second-fastest time in the program's history. He earned a silver medal, the team's best performance of the championship, in the 200-yard breaststroke late Sunday with a career-best time of 2:05.05, becoming just the second Dolphin to ever go under 2:07.

Bardin tallied a ninth-place finish in the 200-yard IM in 1:59.26. On Saturday evening, he placed seventh in the 100-yard butterfly in 51.97 seconds, the second-fastest time of his career. He closed out the weekend with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.83.

Freshman Dmitry Gauntt (Portsmouth, R.I./Bishop Stang) recorded a seventh-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle in a career-best 10:07.36. He added a point in the 500-yard freestyle with a 12th-place finish in 5:02.48. He earned four points in the 1650-yard freestyle with a ninth-place finish in 17:51.20.

Sophomore Jacob Stewart (Keene, N.H./Keene) placed eighth in the one-meter diving event with a career-best 268.95 points. He recorded a seventh-place finish in the three-meter diving event with a career-best 304.65 points, becoming just the fifth Dolphin to eclipse 300 points.

Senior Nicholas Sinnenberg (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) tallied a 12th-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:21.55. He concluded his championship performance with a fifth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle in a career-best 16:58.73.

Trembley placed ninth in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.79 seconds. He added a 10th-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday night with a time of 1:01.45. He posted another 10th-place finish with a career-best time of 48.12 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.

Richardson collected four points in the 500-yard freestyle with a ninth-place finish in 4:50.44. He added five points on Sunday by placing eighth in the 200-yard butterfly in a career-best 2:00.96.

McCormick finished 11th in the 1000-yard freestyle in a career-best 10:20.77. He also placed 11th in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.08. He closed out the championship with a 10th-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:16.83.

Sophomore Ethan Fish (Sandy Creek, N.Y./South Jefferson) earned two points with an 11th-place finish in the one-meter diving event with 248.85 points. He placed eighth off the three-meter diving board with a career-best 272.50 points.

Turczyn tallied four points in the 400-yard IM with a ninth-place finish in 4:21.87.

Freshman Sean McCleary (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) finished ninth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.95.

Sophomore Andrew Sheffer (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) placed 11th in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.52.

Freshman Seth Dougherty (Waterford, N.Y./Homeschooled) finished 12th in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.02.

On the women's side, the quartet of Synan, seniors Karen Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Haley Decker (Vernon, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and sophomore Vicky Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) opened the championship with a fifth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay in a season-best 7:51.01, the second-best time in the program's history.

The team of senior Jamie Alexander (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush), freshman Genevieve Kikukawa (Kalaupapa, Hawaii/University Laboratory School) and sophomores Mikael Ann Melfi (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands) and Jordyn Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.87.

Vicky Silaika, Melfi, Synan and Decker placed sixth in the 400-yard medley relay in 4:00.76.

Kikukawa, Melfi, Synan and Decker turned in a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:50.51.

Synan, Decker, Karen Silaika and Alexander closed out the championship by placing seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:40.10.

Individually, Synan placed seventh in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:44.49 to earn 12 points. On Saturday, she finished fourth in the 400-yard IM in 4:36.68 to collect 15 points. She closed out her performance at the championship by claiming the bronze medal in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.45.
 
Decker collected seven points in the 100-yard butterfly with a 10th-place finish in 59.77 seconds. Later Saturday evening, she tallied an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.27. She closed out the weekend with a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:12.48.

Karen Silaika tallied a 12th-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:01.00 to collect five points. She earned five more points in the 500-yard freestyle with another 12th-place finish in a career-best 5:17.28. She concluded her performance at the championship with a sixth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle in a career-best 18:14.33.

Freshman Annamarie Goosley (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) tallied 11 points in the three-meter diving event by placing eighth with a career-best 245.35 points. She also placed eighth in the one-meter diving event with a career-best score of 281.70 to earn 11 more points.

Vicky Silaika picked up four points in the 1000-yard freestyle with a 13th-place finish in a career-best 11:05.64. On Sunday, she placed 15th in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:13.75. She registered a seventh-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle in a career-best 18:22.68

Melfi registered an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.06 to earn 11 points. She added a 16th-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:35.21.

Junior Elizabeth Morgan (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shaker) finished 15th in the 400-yard IM in a career-best 4:51.34. She tallied an 11th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in a career-best 2:15.18.

Kikukawa placed 16th in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.52 seconds. She added five points on Saturday night with a 12th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in a career-best 1:00.72.

Sophomore Kayla Groshen (Forest Hills, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) placed 14th in the 400-yard IM in a career-best 4:51.22.

Sophomore Marcella Christensen (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) recorded a 14th-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle in 19:25.11.

Freshman Mikayla Bonner (Gardiner, N.Y./Wallkill) placed 15th in the 1650-yard freestyle in 20:08.51.
