SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH ST. THOMAS AQUINAS, 4-2, AND #24 SOUTHERN INDIANA, 0-6, ON FIRST DAY AT THE SPRING GAMES

Jan Phyl Village, Fla. – Junior shortstop Kaily LaForce (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) drove in two runs to lead the Le Moyne College softball team to a 4-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday at THE Spring Games at the Auburndale Softball Complex. In their second game of the day, the Dolphins fell to 2018 National Champion, University of Southern Indiana, 6-0.

St. Thomas Aquinas scored the first run of the day in the bottom of the second inning as second baseman Amanda Castro launched a leadoff home run.

The Dolphins evened the score at one in the top of the third. After senior second baseman Jillian McManus (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) and senior first baseman Taylor Artley (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) recorded two-out singles to left, senior designated player/pitcher Peyton Bellrose (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, which allowed McManus to score the tying run.

Le Moyne took the lead with a run in the fourth as LaForce led off with a home run.

The Dolphins extended their lead with two runs in the fifth. Artley and Bellrose opened the frame with singles. After an out, Artley scored from third as LaForce reached on a fielder's choice. Sophomore right fielder Victoria Catalano (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) then lifted a sacrifice fly to center to drive in junior third baseman Olivia Littman (Newfane, N.Y./Newfane).

The Spartans scored once in the bottom of the seventh, but could not plate the tying run. After shortstop Rudae Gadson walked with two outs and moved to second on a wild pitch, designated player Amanda Schweitzer reached on an error by the first baseman, which allowed Gadson to score. The next batter struck out to end the game.

Bellrose earned the win in the circle after striking out six over the final three and two-thirds innings, while yielding just an unearned run. Artley finished the game with three hits, while Dunn had two. Paige Toothaker took the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) and eight hits over six innings.

Southern Indiana scored the only run it would need in the first inning. Second baseman Rachel Martinez drew a walk with one out, moved to second on a groundout and came around to score on a single up the middle by pitcher Allie Goodin.

The Screaming Eagles plated four runs in the second inning. First baseman Jordan Rager led off with a single, third baseman Anna Carroll walked and right fielder Mikaela Domico singled to load the bases. Designated player Jennifer Leonhardt then doubled to right center to drive in Rager and Carroll. Martinez followed with a single through the right side to knock in Domico and Leonhardt.

Southern Indiana finished off its scoring with a run in the third inning. Shortstop Taylor Ricketts led off with a double to right center, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a double down the right field line by Rager.

Freshman Mckenzie Bergdoll (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) suffered her first loss after allowing five runs over one-plus innings. McManus recorded two of Le Moyne's five hits. Goodin earned her third win of the year after striking out 10 over seven innings, while yielding just the five hits.
