Millersville, Pa. – Right fielder Nick Mancuso had two hits and two RBI to lead #8/13 Millersville University to a 6-3 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Cooper Park.
As they did in both games on Saturday, the Dolphins got the scoring started by plating a run in the second inning. Junior third baseman
Derrick Miller (Westernville, N.Y./Rome Free Academy/Hudson Valley C.C.) led off with a single through the left side and then moved to second on a walk by junior first baseman
Michael Smith (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern). After taking third on a groundout, Miller scored on a wild pitch.
Millersville answered in the bottom of the second with four runs on three hits and a Le Moyne error. Catcher Luke Trainer led off with a single and then first baseman Jimmy Cain and designated hitter Darin Miller drew walks to load the bases. Mancuso then singled through the right side to drive in Trainer and Cain. Following a sacrifice bunt, third baseman Tyler Wright singled to right field to knock in Miller. Mancuso then scored on an error by the second baseman as Wright stole second.
The Marauders added a pair of runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Second baseman Jimmy Losh singled to left with one out and came around to score on a double to right center by shortstop Eric Callahan. Trainer then singled up the middle to drive in Callahan.
The Dolphins took advantage of a Millersville error to score a run in the sixth. Sophomore shortstop
Nick Nevins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) drew a walk with one out, advanced to second as sophomore pitcher/designated hitter
Andrew Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) reached on a fielding error by the first baseman and then took third as Miller walked to load the bases, which forced a pitching change. Smith then lifted a sacrifice fly into foul territory in left field to drive in Nevins.
Le Moyne cut its deficit to three with a run in the seventh. Junior catcher
Drew Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) led off with a single to center and moved to second on a walk by freshman second baseman
Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame). Following a pitching change and a pair of outs, Nevins singled to left field to drive in Fureno. Roden then singled to load the bases, but the runners were stranded following a pop out.
Roden suffered the loss on the mound after yielding four runs (three earned) in two innings of work. Fureno had two hits, while Nevins drew three walks in the contest. Alex Mykut earned the win after striking out six over five and one-third innings, while allowing two runs (one earned).
Le Moyne (8-6) is back on the diamond on Wednesday at Goldey-Beacom College for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m.
