Syracuse, N.Y. – Le Moyne College head women's basketball coach Gina Castelli announced on Tuesday afternoon that Sydney Lusher has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Le Moyne and play for the Dolphins during the 2021-22 season.

Lusher, a 5-foot, 10-inch guard from Oneida, N.Y., plays for Oneida High School, where she finished her junior campaign averaging 18.1 points per game. Lusher also added 5.9 assists, 8 rebounds and 3 steals per game throughout her junior season. She led her team to an overall record of 21-2. At the conclusion of her junior year, she was named Tri-Valley League Pioneer Player of the Year and a NYSPHSAA Class B All-State First Team selection.  She also was an All-Central New York First Team honoree. Academically, she is a 4.0 student and ranks in the top three of her class.

"We are very happy and excited to welcome Syd Lusher to our program," said Castelli, who is in her eighth year guiding the Dolphins. "Syd is a skilled, hard-working guard who can play multiple positions. She has a calm demeanor and a high basketball IQ. We are proud that another Central New York player has joined our team. She follows a pedigree of exceptional Central New Yorkers that are playing or have played here at Le Moyne."

The Dolphins finished the 2019-20 season with a 19-9 record, including a 14-5 mark in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Dolphins advanced to the NE10 Semifinals for the fourth straight year and earned the sixth seed in the NCAA Championships East Regional, which was canceled before being started due to COVID-19.

The National Letter-of-Intent program was started in 1964. Administered by the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA), the program was designed with prospective student-athletes in mind. A signed letter-of-intent indicates a prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the designated college or university for one academic year. Institutions agree to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year to the student-athlete, provided the student-athlete is admitted to the institution and is eligible for financial aid under NCAA rules.
