Williamsville, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team earned its first win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Daemen College on Sunday afternoon at the Williamsville South High School courts.
Daemen collected the first point of the day by winning the doubles competition. After the Le Moyne duo of graduate student
Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and junior
Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School) defeated Ben Davis and Sam Greco, 6-1, at the first spot, the Wildcats won the second and third positions. Luis de Vuyst and Jose Williamson III were 6-4 winners at the second spot over juniors
Felipe Cruz (San Jose, Costa Rica/Blue Valley School/Saint Louis) and
Erik Adler (Lima, Peru/Santa Maria College) and Zachary LaPlante and Phillip Vance posted a 6-4 win at the third position over redshirt senior
Jared Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) and freshman
Xavier Branagan (Wollstonecraft, Australia/St. Aloysius' College).
The Dolphins won four of the six matches in the singles competition to secure the victory. At the second position, junior
Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) defeated Vance, 6-0, 6-1, in the most lopsided match of the day. Cruz was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at the third spot over LaPlante. Adler tallied back-to-back scores of 6-3 at the fifth position to beat Williamson III. Branagan collected his first collegiate victory, 6-1, 6-2, over Greco at the sixth spot. Davis downed Howard at the first position, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, while de Vuyst was a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 winner at the fourth spot over Miller.
As a team, the Dolphins next compete on Saturday, February 12 at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania to open the Spring season. Individually, Jarry is back in action on Thursday at the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia following his victory at the ITA East Regional three weeks ago.
