New Haven, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University had five players record double-digit kills as the Owls rallied for a 3-2 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Pelz Gymnasium.
After the teams went back and forth over the first 31 points of the match, leading to 16-15 Southern Connecticut State lead, the Owls rattled off six straight points and nine of the last 11 to take the first set, 25-17. After the teams split the first 36 points of the second set, the Dolphins put together a 5-1 run to take control of the set before closing it out with a 25-22 win to even the match at one set apiece. The third set was as tightly contested as the first two with the Dolphins using a 4-0 spurt to pull away from a 17-all tie en route to a 25-23 victory for a 2-1 lead in the match. Southern Connecticut stayed alive in the match by scoring 13 of the last 18 points of the fourth set for a 25-16 win. The Owls put the match away with a 15-8 win in the fifth set after using a 7-1 run to pull away in the middle of the set.

Maethavee Siphakongviseth (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) led the Dolphins in the setback with her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and a career-high 22 digs. Junior outside hitter
Madeleine Kennedy (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) tallied a team-best 12 kills over the final four sets, while senior middle blocker
Lexi Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) hit .474 en route to 11 kills for the last four sets. Graduate student setter
Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) registered her sixth double-double of the season with 33 assists and 12 digs, while adding five kills. Redshirt freshman libero
Isabella Leslie (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) recorded 17 digs and four service aces, while senior defensive specialist
Emily Mosack (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) and sophomore defensive specialist
Madison Dembroski (Plattekill, N.Y./Wallkill) had 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Layla Cortez led Southern Connecticut with a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs, while hitting .313. Gabriela Vazquez also landed 14 kills to go with a .265 hitting percentage. Gabriela Gaibur also recorded a double-double with 13 kills and a team-high 21 digs. Erika Benson hit .409 en route to 11 kills, while Abigail Epstein was the fifth Owl with double-figure kills with 10. Taylor Jones directed the offense with 52 assists and added 11 digs as the third Owl with a double-double. Krishnalei So'oto added 14 digs and four assists.
Le Moyne (2-9, 0-3 NE10) returns home to host the University of New Haven on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
