ADELPHI ADVANCES TO NE10 FINAL WITH WIN OVER WOMEN'S TENNIS

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's tennis team lost to Adelphi University by a score of 4-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Semifinals at the Skytop tennis courts on Friday afternoon. The Panthers advance to the tournament finals where they will take on Franklin Pierce for the conference championship.

Le Moyne's Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) won their 12th match of the year, taking down Julia Kielan and Carolina Chaves 6-2 in No. 3 doubles, but Adelphi' Louisa Junghanns and Amanda Franstedt defeated Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) 6-2 in No. 2 doubles, and the team of Barbie Quagliardi and Caterina Federici bested Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/Ted Ankara College Foundation HS) and Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) 6-2 in No. 1 doubles to secure the first point of the day for the Panthers. 

In singles competition Chaves defeated Fernandez in No. 6 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Adelphi got another point in No. 1 singles where Junghanns took down Barona 6-2, 6-3. The Panthers clinched the match with a win in No. 3 singles, as Federici won her match against Nunez 6-1, 6-2. The matches between Quagliardi and Oz at No. 2 singles, Franstedt and Pepper at No. 4 singles, and Kielan and Lilliegren at No. 5 singles all went unfinished.
