VOLLEYBALL EDGED BY BENTLEY, 3-1

Waltham, Mass. – Ellie Wheeler and Shannon Ngo landed double-digit kills to lead Bentley University to a 3-1 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

The Dolphins opened the match with six of the first seven points. After the teams split the next 20 points, Bentley scored four in a row to cut its deficit to one. Le Moyne answered back with a 4-0 spurt of its own to regain its five-point lead. The Falcons scored seven of the next 11 points to get within 24-22, but then committed an error to give the Dolphins the 25-22 win.

Le Moyne scored the first five points of the second set, but Bentley responded with the next six and nine of the next 10 for a 9-6 lead. The Dolphins countered with five straight points and eight of the next nine for a 14-10 advantage. Following a 5-0 spurt by the Dolphins to go up 20-14, Bentley rattled off nine straight points and 11 of the last 13 for a 25-22 victory.

Bentley started hot in the third set with five of the first six points. Following back-and-forth play resulted in a 15-13 Bentley lead, the Falcons scored five straight points for a seven-point advantage. Le Moyne scored 10 of the next 14 points to get within 24-23, but the Falcons recorded a block to end the set, 25-23.

After the teams split the first six points of the fourth set, Bentley used a 7-1 run to open up a lead. Following back-and-forth action led to a 19-12 Bentley lead, the Dolphins scored four straight points and 11 of the next 15 to even the set at 23 apiece. Bentley landed a kill and Le Moyne committed an error as the Falcons closed out the match with a 25-23 win.

Freshman outside hitter Emily LaRuffa (Rock Hill, N.Y./Monticello) led the Dolphins offensively with a career-high 13 kills on a career-best .345 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Madeleine Kennedy (Chelsea, N.Y./Chelsea) posted 11 kills and two blocks. Graduate student setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) just missed a double-double with 31 assists and nine digs, while adding four kills and three service aces. Redshirt freshman libero Isabella Leslie (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) led the team defensively with 15 digs. Redshirt freshman Maethavee Siphakongviseth (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) recorded 10 digs and eight kills.

Wheeler led the Falcons with 13 kills and added seven digs. Ngo hit .632 en route to tallying 12 kills, while adding four blocks. Amanda Parker directed the offense with 33 assists and posted 10 digs. Jazzy Burke led the defense with 15 digs, while Ingrid Murphy contributed 13 and eight kills.

Le Moyne (3-12, 1-6 NE10) is back home to host American International College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
