18TH-RANKED INDIANA (PA.) CRUISES TO 106-67 WIN OVER MEN’S BASKETBALL

Indiana, Pa. – Shawndale Jones led six Crimson Hawks in double figures as 18th-ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania cruised to a 106-67 win over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in non-conference action on Tuesday night at the Kovalchick Complex.

"I think you see the difference between a team that's been together for three months, half the team's been together for three months, compared to a team that's been together for three years," said head coach Nate Champion '14. "They played really well today, they shot the ball really well, I think they played as good as they possibly could, and they were on. When that happens, it's a tough matchup. I thought we did some good things though and I think there's a lot of stuff that we can build on and improve off of, so we just have to do that, obviously one game doesn't define who you are, but the big thing is we need to learn from it and continue to move on in the right direction."

Redshirt freshman guard Christian Davis (Denver, Colo./Mullen/New Hampton School) led the Dolphins offensively with 19 points, including 14 in the second half, after connecting on 5-of-8 three-point field goal attempts. Classmate Kevin Constant (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic/Tilton School) went 7-of-11 from the field for the second straight game en route to 17 points. Freshman guard Zy'Ever Wingfield (Richmond, Va./Henrico/Fork Union Military Academy) pulled own a team-high eight rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench, while scoring eight points and blocking a pair of shots. Third-year sophomore guard Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, Ill./Bogan/Ferris State) dished out eight assists – the second-most in his career – to go with eight points and four steals.

Jones finished the game with 24 points, including 22 in the first half, while adding seven assists and four steals. Ethan Porterfield netted 11 of his 19 points in the second half. Armoni Foster, who had 28 points in the teams' meeting in Syracuse two years ago, flirted with a triple-double with 17 points (all in the second half), 10 assists and seven rebounds. Dave Morris scored 12 of his 16 points in the opening half. Bryce Radford hit four three-pointers en route to 12 points, while Tommy Demogerontas posted 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

After the Dolphins scored on the first shot of the game, the Crimson Hawks followed with a pair of 6-0 runs around Le Moyne's next basket. Porterfield and Demogerontas each scored four points in the span.

IUP later used a 5-0 spurt to push its lead into double-digits for the first time at 19-8 with 13:25 remaining in the first half.

After the Dolphins closed within 21-15 with 10:51 to go on a lay-up by Constant, the Crimson Hawks rattled off a 15-5 run to open up a 17-point lead with 7:27 remaining. Morris tallied the first eight points before three other Crimson Hawks combined for seven points.

Following 10 points from each team over the next four and one-half minutes, the Crimson Hawks closed out the half with a 9-4 run to take a 55-33 lead into halftime. Jones accounted for seven of the nine points in the span.

After Constant started the scoring in the second half for the Dolphins, Indiana (Pa.) ran off 18 of the next 26 points for its first 30-point lead of the night with 15:29 left. Morris had the first four points, Porterfield scored five in the stretch, Radford and Demogerontas each nailed three-pointers and Jones and Foster combined for three free throws, while Constant had four of Le Moyne's eight points.

The teams then went back and forth over the next seven minutes with IUP's lead bouncing between 26 and 32 points and settling at 26 on a three-pointer by Davis with 8:33 to play.

The Crimson Hawks answered with 11 consecutive points over 2:22. Foster made a three-pointer and had a transition dunk around a pair of three-pointers from Radford.

Davis snapped the run with a three-pointer, but Foster made two shots to get the Crimson Hawks into triple digits.

Le Moyne (1-1), which falls to 0-3 all-time against the Crimson Hawks, opens its home and Northeast-10 Conference schedule on Saturday against the University of New Haven at 3:00 p.m.

Additional quotes from head coach Nate Champion:
On positives from the game, specifically from Christian Davis and Kevin Constant
"I think you see those two coming alive in the second half and then Zy'Ever Wingfield, I thought did some good things with eight rebounds. I thought just overall we've got to take care of the basketball, but you see some good things and against a top team in the country, we went on some spurts there every once in a while and I just thought there were signs, some signs of good things to see and we've got to just build on those. Obviously we were without some of our bigger guys and that hurts against a team like this, but it doesn't matter who you have on the roster that day, you've got to come out and you've got to play the way we need to play and we just didn't do that today."

On upside of the game
"They're a top team in the country, and they're that for a reason, and it showed tonight. They're talented at every spot, and every position, and they're experienced at every position as well. They played in high-level games throughout their three years together, and we haven't yet. This is a good test for us and it's great to have this early on in the season, you get to learn a lot from it and you get to grow a lot from it, so you know hopefully with that we get to move on and we have New Haven, who comes to our place on Saturday, which is another great test for us as well, and it doesn't get any easier after that, so we've got to grow up quickly and we've got to fix some mistakes quickly as well."
