Manchester, N.H. – Lauren Casey landed 12 kills to lead Saint Anselm College to a 3-0 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
"Although we had a slow start, we fought hard the last two sets," said head coach Bethany Fabian '13, M' 17. "I am optimistic that we will bring that fight into our remaining matches."
The Hawks opened the match with the first 11 points and 15 of the initial 16. After Saint Anselm pushed its lead to 18-2, the teams split the next 10 points. Following a 3-1 spurt by the Dolphins, the Hawks closed out the set for a 25-10 win.
The Dolphins scored the first three points of the second set and led 9-6 after 15 points. After 3-0 spurts by each team, the Hawks scored nine of the next 10 points to open up an 18-13 lead. Le Moyne answered with nine of the next 14 points to get within 23-22 and force a Saint Anselm timeout. The Hawks scored the ensuing two points out of the timeout to take the set, 25-22.
Saint Anselm scored the first four points of the third set and led 10-5 after 15 points. The Dolphins scored three of the next four points to get within three, but Saint Anselm countered with three points to force a Le Moyne timeout. The action repeated with a 3-1 spurt by the Dolphins and a 3-0 run by the Hawks to give Saint Anselm a seven-point lead. The Hawks later used a 5-0 run to get within match point at 24-13. The Dolphins stayed alive with four straight points before Saint Anselm was able to close out the set and the match, 25-17.

Madeleine Kennedy (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) led the Dolphins in the setback with 12 kills and eight digs to go with a pair of service aces. Graduate student setter
Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) directed the offense with 20 assists to go with five digs and three service aces. Senior libero
Emily Mosack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) led the team defensively with 17 digs.
Casey hit .522 without committing an error en route to her 12 kills, while adding seven digs. Michelle Henwood facilitated the offense with 35 assists, while posting seven digs and three kills. Caroline Belmontez led the defense with 11 digs.
Le Moyne (4-15, 2-9 NE10) closes out its home schedule on Thursday against Daemen College at 6:00 p.m.
