Syracuse, N.Y. – Caitlyn Meyer registered 15 kills to lead Daemen College to a 3-0 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team in non-conference action on Thursday evening at Ted Grant Court.
"We had a lot of energy out there today, but we had a hard time pulling ourselves out of holes," said head coach
Bethany Fabian '13, M '17. "I'm optimistic that we will have a good practice tomorrow as we look forward to our last match of the season vs Saint Rose."
Daemen, which is ranked fifth in the latest NCAA East Region rankings, jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the opening set. Following two points by the Dolphins, the Wildcats ran off five in a row to open up their first double-digit lead of the match. Le Moyne answered back with a 10-5 run to pull within 18-13. Daemen responded with seven of the last nine points of the set for a 25-15 victory.
The Wildcats opened up a 6-1 lead in the second set. After the Dolphins closed within 11-8, Daemen scored four of the next five points to take a six-point edge. The teams then went back and forth over the next 11 points before the Dolphins scored three in a row to get within 21-17. Following four points from each team, Meyer landed a kill for a 25-20 win for the Wildcats.
Daemen scored the first three points of the third set and 10 of the initial 11. After the Dolphins scored two of the next three points, the Wildcats posted a 7-2 run for an 18-5 lead. Le Moyne answered with a 6-1 run to cut its deficit to eight. Daemen pushed its lead to 23-11 before the Dolphins countered with a 3-1 spurt. Meyer ended the match with her final kill of the night.

Lexi Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led the Dolphins offensively with six kills, while adding four blocks. Junior setter
Margaret King (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) directed the offense with 12 assists, redshirt freshman
Alisiana Muscoreil (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) added five. Senior libero
Emily Mosack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) led the team defensively with a season-high 21 digs.
Meyer hit .500 en route to her 15 kills, six of which came in the second set, while adding seven digs and three blocks. Olivia Alessi facilitated the offense with 29 assists, while posting nine digs. Jasmine Brundage led the defense with 14 digs.
Le Moyne (4-16) closes out the season on Saturday at The College of Saint Rose at 1:00 p.m.
