CAREER-NIGHT FROM FOURACRE LEADS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO 69-65 WIN OVER VISITING ADELPHI

Syracuse, N.Y. - Women's basketball senior point guard Erin Fouracre (Loudonville, N.Y./Colonie Central) had a career-night on Wednesday, leading the Dolphins to a thrilling 69-65 win over Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division opponent Adelphi University on Ted Grant Court to improve the team's record to 4-1 overall, and 2-1 against conference competition.

Fouracre scored a career-high 21 points, distributed a career-high nine assists, and ripped three steals during 38 minutes of action. The senior point guard was also extremely efficient, shooting 5-7 from the field, including a perfect 2-2 from beyond the three-point line, and 9-11 from the free-throw line. Two of those made free-throws came with fifteen seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to make it a two-possession game at 68-64.

"I'm just really proud of our team, especially Erin. Going into this game, it's definitely a rivalry game, and I think she held her composure really, really well and followed the game plan. Our goal was not to give them too many threes, and they were 3-12. You know, it's a three-point shooting team and we had to make a stand on the three-point line, just with our past two games, Saint Rose and Roberts (Wesleyan) shooting the three really well. So we really keyed in on that. Defensively, we're gonna get better, just one-on-one defense, but offensively we just keep pounding it inside and when it's happening inside, then it can happen outside and Erin took advantage of that today," said Le Moyne head coach Mary Grimes after the win.

"Adelphi is one of the best teams in the NE10. They're really aggressive, so I think just staying composed and being patient on the offensive end [was important] and then defensively - just getting after it...Shoutout to my team and the bench, definitely. We came into warmups with a lot of energy and that carries over into our game. I'm just so proud of our team and how far we've come," added Fouracre.

Senior forward Emma Brinker (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) completed her fifth consecutive double-double during the win, pouring in 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds while shooting 67% from the field on 15 field goal attempts.

"I can't say enough about Emma. I mean, she is doing an unbelievable job, and as much as we give her the ball she just keeps asking for it, and eating…. She's just the anchor of our team and we're just thankful that she's here," Coach Grimes said about Brinker.

The two teams traded punches throughout the first quarter, and with less than a minute left in the period the Panthers of Adelphi led by a score of 20-18. At the 0:50 mark Lexi Gruss (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) delivered an assist to senior forward Jenna Zimmerman (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) to tie the game at 20-20. Then with 30 seconds remaining in the quarter, junior guard Lytoya Baker (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) rose high in the air to grab an offensive rebound and converted the stick-back to give the Dolphins a 22-20 lead heading into the second period.

Including the final minute of the first quarter, Le Moyne went on a 25-11 run to take a double digit lead at halftime. Fouracre scored the first five Le Moyne points of the second quarter off a mid-range jumper and a three-pointer to give her team a 27-24 advantage. After free-throws from Brinker and Haedyn Roberts (Holland Patent, N.Y./Holland Patent), Fouracre drained another three-point field goal to put Le Moyne up 33-24 with 4:34 left in the half. Soon after, Fouracre delivered fast-break assists on two consecutive Le Moyne possessions; at the 3:20 mark Fouracre pushed the ball up the floor and sent a pass to Brinker who knocked down a mid-range jump shot, and following a steal by Gruss with just over three minutes remaining in the half, Fouracre lofted a pass on the run over the defense to Baker who was sprinting down the court on the right wing. Baker finished the layup to give Le Moyne a 37-29 lead. Brinker sank another jump-shot at the 0:12 mark of the second quarter to put Le Moyne up 43-31 at the break.

Adelphi stayed within arms reach throughout the third quarter, and outscored Le Moyne during the period 19-12. Consecutive baskets from Brinker put Le Moyne up 52-42 at the 4:38 mark. Adelphi forward Emma Cuccurullo grabbed a strong offensive rebound and converted the put-back to trim the Panther's deficit to 52-46. Lytoya Baker converted one of two free-throws with 1:50 remaining in the quarter to make it 53-46, and Zimmerman grabbed a clutch offensive rebound and converted a layup at the 1:09 mark to extend the Le Moyne lead to 55-48. Zimmerman finished the contest with a season-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end. Cuccurullo drained a jumper with just under a minute left in the quarter to make it 55-50 in favor of the Dolphins heading into the final period.

A made three-point field goal by Ty'zhea Hawkins with 6:29 left in the fourth period put the Panthers up 60-59, giving them their first lead of the game since they held a 20-18 advantage with 1:01 remaining in the first quarter. Le Moyne responded with a layup from Brinker off an assist from Zimmerman to put them back on top, 61-60. After a clutch steal on the perimeter with 3:50 remaining, Fouracre drew a foul and knocked down two free-throws to put the Dolphins up 64-62. Adelphi tied the game with a jump shot from Korina Guerra, but a tough bucket from Zimmerman at the 2:57 mark once again gave Le Moyne the lead at 66-64. The Le Moyne bench erupted when the relentless efforts of Baker on the offensive glass resulted in a second possession for the Dolphins as the junior guard grabbed her sixth rebound of the game and drew a foul while Le Moyne held on to a two-point lead with a minute and a half remaining. The Panthers had the ball and a chance to tie with under a minute left in the fourth quarter, but guards Saeeda Abdul-Aziz (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen/Davidson) and Baker successfully fought to prevent the tying basket. Abdul-Aziz deflected the ball and Baker grabbed her seventh and final rebound of the game. Fouracre drew a foul with fifteen seconds remaining and sank two clutch free-throws to make it a two-possession game at 68-64 in favor of the Dolphins.

The Dolphins held on to earn a 69-65 conference victory over the visiting Panthers to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Le Moyne College women's basketball team will travel to Southern Connecticut State on Saturday, December 4 to take on the 4-2 Owls at 1:30 p.m. EST.
