Syracuse, N.Y. - Le Moyne College Head Women's Basketball Coach Mary Grimes announced the addition of four student-athletes who have signed to attend Le Moyne and play for the Dolphins in 2022-23. Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus), Kaia Goode (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney), Michelina Lombardi (Wyanantskill, N.Y./Averill Park), and Tamiya Turner (Howell, N.J./Howell) will be first year students on The Heights next fall and will help the Dolphins continue to build on the success the team has achieved the last several seasons.
Sierra Linnin - A 5'8'' guard from Valley Cottage, N.Y., Linnin was a two-time All-League, an All-Section and an All-County selection while at Albertus Magnus High School, and was named team MVP. Linnin won back-to-back BCANY Summer Hoops Festival three-point contests, and played her AAU basketball with the NY Extreme. Linnin is a member of the National Honor Society at Albertus Magnus, as well as the Science, Spanish, and Social Studies Honor Societies.
Here's what Coach Grimes had to say about Linnin… "I am very excited about Sierra and her ability to consistently knock down the three. Not only can she shoot but she has the ability to put the ball on the floor, finish with contact and get to the free-throw line. Sierra is a winner and comes from winning programs both in high school and AAU."
Kaia Goode - 5'4" point guard who excelled at basketball and soccer at Bishop Kearney High School in Rochester, N.Y.. On the soccer pitch Goode scored a school record 55 goals, the most in Section V during the 2021 season. Goode was named Player of the Year for her division, the third time she has received the honor, and was a Private-Parochial First Team All-League selection. On the basketball court Goode is a three-time Section V Champion and an All-Tournament defensive MVP. At Bishop Kearney, Goode is a member of the National Honor Society, she is an AP Scholar, a Latin Award Scholar, and an Urban League of Rochester's Black Scholars Honor Society member
Here's what Coach Grimes had to say about Goode… "Kaia is a player that I knew had to get on campus as soon as I got the job at Le Moyne. She is a team player who looks to create for her teammates but also has the ability to score the ball off the bounce. Her defensive tenacity and ability to pressure the ball in the full court is something I look forward to having on our team."
Michelina Lombardi - 5'6" guard from Wyanantyskill, New York who excelled at basketball and soccer while at Averill Park High School. On the soccer pitch she is a two-time Section II Class A finalist, and a 2019 Section II Class A Champion with the Warriors. Lombardi is a two-time Suburban Council All-Star Second Team Selection and a Suburban Council All-Star First Team selection as well as the Goalie of the Year award winner. On the basketball court Lombardi is a two-time Section II Class A Champion, a former Class A Tournament MVP and a Times Union All-Star. In the classroom Lombardi ranks 8th in a senior class of 225 students, holds the role of Class President as well as President of the Student Athletic Advisory Council, is a member of the Journalism Club, the International Club and the National Honor Society. Lombardi played her AAU basketball with City Rocks.Â
Here's what Coach Grimes had to say about Lombardi… "Michelina is an all-around athlete and a leader. The energy and love she brings to the game of basketball shows every time she is on the court. Michelina's ability to get on the defensive glass and push the ball up the floor fits the style of play we have here at Le Moyne."
Tamiya Turner - a 5'11" forward from Howell, N.J., Turner was named to the All-Academic Team while at Howell High School. On the court Turner was the leading rebounder in the state of New Jersey during the 2020-21 season and was among the statewide leaders in blocks during the 2019-20 campaign. Turner won a Daily Record Athlete of the Week Award in 2021, is a two-time All-Conference selection in her career, including a First Team All-Conference nod in 2021. Turner also earned All-NJAC Honorable Mention recognition by NJ.com. She played her AAU basketball with the New Jersey Freedom.
Here's what Coach Grimes had to say about Turner… "Tamiya's athleticism will be a perfect fit for our front court. She gets on the glass defensively but also offensively for rebound put backs. Her ability to post up and score with her back to the basket is something we will be looking for her to continue here at Le Moyne"
