Ludlow, Mass. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team kicked off its season with a 6-1 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at the Ludlow Tennis Club.
The Dolphins captured both matches contested in the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead in the match. At the first position, freshman
Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) and senior
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) registered a 6-1 victory over Meritxell Jimeno-Vicente and Jordyn Isaac. Senior
Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.) and sophomore
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) also tallied a 6-1 win at the second spot over Sophie Roberge and Melissa Feilen.
Le Moyne, which was picked to finish fourth in the NE10 preseason coaches' poll, won three of the four matches contested in the singles competition. At the top spot, Pepper won in her Dolphin debut over Jimeno-Vicente, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1). Nunez registered her 50th career singles win (third-most in the program's history) with back-to-back scores of 6-0 against Roberge at the second position. Lilliegren was also a 6-0, 6-0 winner at the third spot over Isaac. Feilen earned AIC's point by default at the fourth position.
Le Moyne (1-0, 1-0 NE10) opens its home schedule on Sunday against Adelphi University.
