Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team rallied from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Adelphi University, 4-3, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Nottingham High School.
Adelphi took a 1-0 lead in the match by winning the two matches contested in the doubles competition. At the first position, Barbie Quagliardi and Nicole Kielan registered a 6-2 victory over junior
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) and sophomore
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil). Amanda Franstedt and Nicole Stay clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the second spot over senior
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and freshman
Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott).
The Dolphins won four of the six matches in the singles competition to claim the victory. Le Moyne evened the match at one apiece as senior
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) won by default at he sixth position. Adelphi took a 3-1 lead with wins at fourth and fifth singles. Julia Kielan was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at the fifth spot over senior
Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.), Stay recorded a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the fourth position over Lilliegren. Oz started Le Moyne's comeback by defeating Quagliardi at the top spot, 6-2, 6-3. Pepper evened the match at three points apiece with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the third position over Franstedt. Nunez clinched the victory for the Dolphins by registering a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win at the second spot over Nicole Kielan for her 51st career victory.
Le Moyne (2-0, 2-0 NE10), which defeated Adelphi in Syracuse for the first time in six matches since the Panthers joined the NE10, is back in action on Wednesday at Assumption University at 12:00 p.m.
