WOMEN’S TENNIS IMPROVES TO 4-0 WITH 4-1 VICTORY OVER NEW HAVEN

DeWitt, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team rallied in singles play to defeat the University of New Haven, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Elevate Fitness.
 
The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the match by winning the doubles competition. The Dolphins took a 1-0 lead in doubles as junior Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) and sophomore Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) recorded a 6-3 win at the top spot over Ivana Andric and Stephanie Gonzalez. The Chargers were then victorious at the second and third positions by the same score of 7-5 to claim the point. Nicole Mika and Kacie Banks registered the win over freshman Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) and senior Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) at the second position and Lilia Rodriguez and Alexa Orlando recorded the victory at the third spot over seniors Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.) and Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi).
 
Le Moyne registered victories at the middle four matches of the singles competition to earn its fourth straight win. At the second position, Pepper opened with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Gonzalez to even the match at one apiece. Nunez was then a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 winner over Mika at the third spot for her 52nd career victory, which is tied with Amica Benoit-Limosani '18 for the second-most by a Dolphin in the program's history. Lilliegren gave the Dolphins a 3-1 lead in the match by defeating Banks at the fourth position, 6-2, 6-3. Peters clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the fifth spot over Rodriguez.
 
Le Moyne (4-0, 4-0 NE10), which has won its first four NE10 matches for the second straight year, returns to the courts on Wednesday with a pair of matches at Pope Francis Preparatory School in Springfield, Mass. The Dolphins will take on American International College at 1:00 p.m. and Bentley University in a make-up of a match from March 14 at 3:00 p.m.
