Pleasantville, N.Y. – Graduate student midfielder
Ross Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Siena) scored the tying goal and eventual winning goal as the top-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team rallied to defeat 10th-ranked Pace University, 6-4, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Pace Stadium.
Senior midfielder
Ben McCreary (Cicero, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)) scored the only two goals of the first quarter. His first was unassisted with 6:52 left and his second came off a pass from junior midfielder
Colin Sypek (Lake Worth, Fla./American Heritage School (Delray Beach)) with 1:00 left.
Pace evened the score in the second quarter with the only two goals. After the Setters were scoreless for the first 26:18 of the game, Anthony Caputo recorded an unassisted goal with 3:42 until halftime. Just 55 seconds later, Rafael Rodriguez knotted the score at two.
Jake Veres gave the Setters the lead with 8:42 remaining in the third quarter.
After going 29:31 without a goal, Le Moyne scored four times in 3:56 over the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth to take a three-goal lead. Filtch tied the score at three with 1:29 left in the third after collecting a feed from graduate student attackman
Jake Nelson (), who returned to the lineup after missing two games after being sidelined in the first meeting with the Setters two weeks ago. Just 33 seconds later, Sypek put the Dolphins in front with his fifth goal of the season. Filtch made it 5-3 with his seventh goal of the season 45 seconds into the fourth quarter. McCreary added an insurance goal with 12:33 left off a dish from Nelson.
Dan Lewis got the Setters within 6-4 with a man-down goal with 16 seconds left.
The Dolphins won the ensuing faceoff and were able to run the clock out to seal the victory.
Redshirt senior goalkeeper
Riley Smith (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Onondaga C.C.) registered seven saves to earn his 26th as a Dolphin, the sixth-most in the program's history. Senior defenseman
Nate Arnold (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon/Richmond) caused six turnovers, tying Nick Hourigan for the most by a Dolphin over the last 19 years. Louis Ragusa turned away 10 shots in the loss.
Le Moyne (6-0, 5-0 NE10) returns home to host seventh-ranked Adelphi University on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
