THIRD-RANKED WOMEN’S LACROSSE GETS OVERTIME GOAL FROM MCMULLEN TO DEFEAT 11TH-RANKED ADELPHI, 8-7

Garden City, N.Y. – Senior attacker Erin McMullen (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) capped a five-goal performance with the game-winning goal in overtime as the third-ranked Le Moyne College women's lacrosse team recorded an 8-7 victory over 11th-ranked Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring just 1:43 into the contest on a free-position goal by junior midfielder Adrianna Nojaim (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee).

Adelphi answered with the next three goals, which matched its goal total from the March 28 meeting in Syracuse. Christina Ferrara, who missed the first matchup, knotted the score at one with 27:07 left off a feed from Christina McCabe. Just 65 seconds later, Tewaaraton Award Watch List member Kole Pollock scored her ninth goal of the season off a pass from 2018 NE10 Player of the Year Alison Johnson. The duo, who were held scoreless in the first meeting, connected again with 18:46 left for a 3-1 Adelphi advantage.

Le Moyne countered with the final three goals of the half. McMullen scored her first of the day with 11:11 remaining on a free-position shot. Junior attacker Jessica Meneilly (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) then tied the score at three with 7:27 left with her career-best 24th goal of the campaign off a dish from senior midfielder Sydney Meagher (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport). In an extra-player situation, McMullen converted another free-position shot with 3:51 left to put the Dolphins in front.

The Dolphins extended their run to five straight goals with the first two of the second half. Meagher made it 5-3 with 24:59 left in regulation off a free-position shot for her career-best 14th goal of the year. McMullen then finished off a pass from Nojaim with 22:33 to play for a three-goal advantage. With the goal, McMullen passed Brenna Bauer '13 for eighth on the program's all-time points chart with her 208th.

Adelphi scored twice in 32 seconds to get back within one. Pollock netted her third of the day and 11th of the season with 21:05 to play. Ferrara finished off another pass from McCabe with 20:33 to force a Le Moyne timeout.

Le Moyne regained its two-goal lead with 13:28 left as McMullen scored after collecting a pass from Meagher.

The Panthers scored the final two goals of regulation to force overtime. Ferrara recorded her third goal of the day with 5:04 left after taking a pass in an extra-player situation from Johnson. Kerrin Heuser knotted the game at seven apiece with 2:26 on the clock by converting a free-position shot.

Le Moyne won the ensuing draw, but committed a turnover with 1:18 left. The Panthers cleared the ball and called timeout with 59 seconds left. Out of the break, Adelphi was unable to get a shot off before time expired in regulation.

In the overtime, McMullen won the opening draw and after working the ball around, the Dolphins called timeout with 25 seconds left on the possession clock. Out of the timeout, with the possession clock down to just six seconds, McMullen scored from in front of the cage after taking a pass from the right from Nojaim and spinning to her left. With the goal, she tied Whitney Vecchio '08 for sixth in the program's history for career goals with her 145th.

Sophomore goalkeeper Paige Crandall (Adams, N.Y./South Jefferson) tied her career high with 13 saves, including seven in the first half, to earn her ninth victory of the season. Emma Lemanski recorded seven saves in the loss for the Panthers.

Le Moyne (9-0, 9-0 NE10), which clinched at least the second seed in the Southwest Division of the NE10 Championships and will claim the top spot with one more win, visits The College of Saint Rose for the first time on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
