Flushing, N.Y. – The third-seeded Le Moyne College men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, 4-0, to top-seeded Concordia College (N.Y.) in the second round of the NCAA Championships at the Queens College Tennis Courts.
The Dolphins, who finish the season at 11-1, dropped the doubles competition for the first time this year. At the third position, Oskar Irdoja and Henry Masters registered a 6-4 win over sophomores
Felipe Cruz (San Jose, Costa Rica/Blue Valley School/Saint Louis) and
Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School). William Nilsson and Jan Godfrey Seno handed seniors
Jared Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) and
James Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) a 6-2 loss at the second spot to clinch the point.
The Clippers won each of the three matches in the singles competition to finish to secure the victory. Irdoja put Concordia up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Cruz at the sixth spot. Nilsson became the first of 12 opponents to defeat sophomore
Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the fifth position. Seno closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over
James Howard at the fourth spot.
