Ryan Murphy has been named the Low-A West Pitcher of the Week, as announced by Minor League Baseball on Monday.
Murphy, a member of the San Jose Giants, the Low-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, earned the honor after a masterful start on Saturday in a 9-0 victory over the Stockton Ports. He took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and finished the contest with seven innings pitched, a career-high 12 strikeout and allowed just one hit and issued just one walk.
Through 11 starts in his first season of professional games, Murphy is 2-1 with a 3.29 earned run average and 72 strikeouts over 52 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting just .225 and he has posted a WHIP (walks plus hits per inning) of just 1.08. His 72 strikeouts are the second-most in the league and his 5.54 strikeout-to-walk ratio is the best among starting pitchers, while he ranks third in strikeouts per nine innings (12.46), fourth in fewest walks per nine innings (2.25) and fifth in ERA.
