WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 3-1

Springfield, Mass. - Junior forward Caroline Porter scored twice and delivered an assist to lead American International College to a 3-1 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Ronald J Abdow Field on Tuesday evening.

Porter had three shots on goal, the first coming in the second minute of the contest when she got loose in the Le Moyne defensive third and ripped a shot on frame that was scooped up by goalkeeper Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) for her first save of the day.

First year forward Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) took a shot on goal for Le Moyne in the fourth minute, but it was saved by Tamra Zippin in net for the Yellow Jackets.

Porter continued to put pressure on the Le Moyne defense, zipping a pass across the box that was intercepted by Moreau in the 12th minute. The forward finally broke through in the 12th minute when a pass from Nicole Gamberoni put her in behind the Le Moyne defense for a breakaway. Porter calmly slid the ball past Moreau to put American International in the lead, 1-0.

The Dolphins were on their heels again in the 19th minute when a pass from Jocelyn Trajkovski gave Porter a free run on the Le Moyne net. Porter scored her second goal of the day to double the Yellow Jacket advantage.

Just over a minute later American International forward Gabby Williams found herself in the Le Moyne defensive third with only one defender to beat, but redshirt freshman Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), usually an attacker for the Dolphins but at the moment filling in at center back for the injured Camille Burruano (Buffalo, N.Y./Grand Island), stepped in to thwart the Yellow Jacket attack.

With 15 minutes remaining in the first half, it was Vittoria Fuduli (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) who made an important defensive play for the Dolphins, tackling Porter on the edge of the 18-yard box before she could put another shot on the Le Moyne net.

In the 40th minute senior midfielder Lainey Foti (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) cut the ball back to her left foot, and fired a shot on net from about 20 yards from goal, but Zippin was able to make the save.

The Dolphins struggled to maintain possession and produce any significant attacking buildup in the beginning of the second half, but were able to cut their deficit in half with 18:42 remaining in the contest after junior Katharine Stanard (Baldwinsville, N.Y./ Christian Brothers Academy) scored her first goal of the season, a header off a Hildur Unnarsdóttir (Kópavogur, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) corner kick.

Le Moyne was unable to get another shot on goal the rest of the half, and the Yellow Jackets put the game out of reach in the 88th minute when Porter found Williams wide open in the middle of the Le Moyne penalty area. Williams gathered herself and carefully placed the ball beyond the reach of Moreau to extend the American International lead to 3-1.

American International improves to 3-2-1 on the season, and 1-2-0 in conference competition.

The Le Moyne College women's soccer team (1-3-1, 0-2-1 NE10) returns home on Saturday, September 25 to take on Saint Anselm College at 1:00 p.m. on Ted Grant Field.
