#2 FRANKLIN PIERCE SCORES EARLY TO DEFEAT MEN'S SOCCER 1-0

Rindge, N.H. - Franklin Pierce first year forward Braudilio Rodrigues scored a header in the third minute off a cross during a FPU counter attack to propel the #2 nationally ranked Ravens to a 1-0 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team at Sodexo Field on Tuesday evening.

The Dolphins were able to get just one shot on goal during the first 45 minutes. With four minutes remaining in the first half, junior defender Ben Quigley (Perth, Scotland/Community School of Auchterarder/University of Stirling) got his foot on a loose ball in the left side of the Franklin Pierce penalty area following a Le Moyne corner kick, poking it towards the near post with his right foot, but Ravens goalkeeper Kosta Maniatis was able to catch the shot against his chest.

In the 49th minute midfielder Joe Falcone (Manlus, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) layed a pass off to graduate student Robert Rohrhirsch (Garching bei München, Germany/Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching/Munich University of Applied Sciences) at the top of the 18-yard box, but Rohrhirsch's shot went high and wide for a Franklin Pierce goal kick.

The Dolphins thought they had an equalizer with 31 minutes remaining in the second half when Tom Henne (Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Buckhorn) knocked the ball into the back of the Franklin Pierce net with his forehead, but Henne was ruled offside and the goal was disallowed.

In the 79th minute first year midfielder Ziad Abdul-Malak (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) sent a cross from the right sideline high and far to the opposite end of the Ravens 18-yard box, the pass was deflected and bounced to Rohrhirsch, who sent a shot bouncing on frame towards the left post, but it was blocked by a Franklin Pierce defender standing in front of the net. The Ravens went on a quick counter attack and sent the ball to the right side of the Le Moyne defensive third, from there playing a fast paced ball into the penalty area that had to be dealt with by a retreating Jack Goodrich (Kelsall, England/King's School Chester) who knocked the ball out of bounds as he was sprinting back into position for a Franklin Pierce corner kick.

Neither team put a shot on goal in the last 10 minutes of the match, and Franklin Pierce came away with the 1-0 victory.

The Ravens improved to 8-0 on the year and 4-0 in the Northeast-10. Le Moyne falls to 4-2-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the conference.

The Dolphins return home on Saturday, October 2 to take on Bentley at 12:00 p.m. at Ted Grant Field.
