19TH-RANKED BENTLEY PULLS AWAY IN SECOND HALF FOR 66-56 WIN OVER MEN’S BASKETBALL

Waltham, Mass. – Zach Laput recorded a double-double to lead 19th-ranked Bentley University to a 66-56 come-from-behind victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday night at the Dana Center.

"I thought our team showed great fight tonight," said head coach Nate Champion '14. "It wasn't the result that we wanted and we aren't satisfied with a loss like that. However, there a lot of positives we can take away from it and I look forward to getting back to work tomorrow and preparing for Saturday."

Redshirt freshman guard Christian Davis (Denver, Colo./Mullen/New Hampton School) led four Dolphins in double figures with 14 points, including seven in each half, while grabbing seven rebounds, blocking two shots and posting two steals. Third-year sophomore guard Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, Ill./Bogan/Ferris State) and junior forward Xavier Wilson (Spring Valley, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac/The Hotchkiss School/Central Connecticut State) posted 12 points each, while Wilson added seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Senior guard Nino Hernandez (Gardner, Mass./The Winchendon School/Bryant) finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and a pair of steals.

Laput recorded game-highs of 15 points and 12 rebounds, including 11 points and eight rebounds in the second half. Jordan Mello-Klein flirted with a triple-double, as he does most games, with 13 points (all in the second half), eight rebounds and seven assists, while adding four steals. Mason Webb also scored 13 points, while Brian Wright-Kinsey came off the bench to score 11 points, block four shots and record three steals.

The Dolphins opened the game with the first six points on three-pointers by Davis and Hernandez.

Bentley answered with six of the next eight points to get within two, but the Dolphins followed with six straight points over a span of four minutes to push out to a 14-6 lead. Washington hit a pair of jumpers around one by Wilson.

Following baskets in the paint by Laput and Webb to get the Falcons within 16-12 with 9:58 left in the half, the Dolphins scored seven of the next nine points for their largest lead of the game at 23-14 with 7:19 left. Washington drained a three-pointer, Wilson hit a jumper and then made two free throws.

Bentley ran off nine consecutive points in a span of three and one-half minutes to knot the score at 26 apiece. Webb made a lay-up, Wright-Kinsey scored five straight points and then Laput converted a shot in the paint to tie the score with 1:20 remaining in the half.

Washington knocked down a jumper with 20 seconds left to give the Dolphins a 28-26 lead at halftime.

After the Dolphins scored four of the first six points of the second half to take a 32-28 lead, the Falcons rattled off nine straight points to take their first lead, which they would not relinquish. Mello-Klein started the run with his first points of the game and then Laput scored seven points over the next three possessions to force a Le Moyne timeout with 15:56 to play.

Following a three-pointer by Mello-Klein with 14:55 left for a 42-34 lead, the Dolphins, Davis in particular, scored five points in 38 seconds to get the Dolphins within three, but that's as close as they would get the remainder of the game.

Bentley answered with a 12-2 run to take its first double-digit lead of the game. Colton Lawrence had a pair of shots in the paint around a jumper by Laput, Webb made two lay-ups and then Pete Blust capped the jaunt with a lay-up.

Following three straight baskets by Mello-Klein to put the Falcons up by a game-high 15 each time, the last of which came at 62-47 with 5:03 left, the Dolphins closed out the game with nine of the last 13 points. Hernandez made a lay-up, Washington hit a three-pointer and then Wilson made a jumper to get the Dolphins within 62-54 with 2:24 to play.

Mello-Klein made Bentley's last field goal and Hernandez hit a jumper for the Dolphins before Wright-Kinsey finished the scoring with two free throws with 46 seconds left.

Le Moyne (8-8, 4-5 NE10), which falls to 0-3 against ranked opponents this year, returns to action at home on Saturday for the start of a three-games-in-five-days homestand against Assumption University at 3:00 p.m.
