Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College men's basketball team will look to get back on track at home on Saturday following two road losses against two of the strongest teams in the conference.
The Dolphins lost at Saint Anselm on January 22 by a score of 81-67 and fell at #19 Bentley on Wednesday, 66-56. The last Le Moyne victory came on Ted Grant Court against Saint Michael's on January 19.
Xavier Wilson (Spring Valley, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac/The Hotchkiss School/Central Connecticut State) scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high seven boards during the loss at Saint Anselm.
Christian Davis also scored in double-figures at Saint Anselm, finishing with 17 points and five rebounds.
Davis, Wilson,
Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, ILL./Bogan/Ferris State) and
Nino Hernandez (Gardner, Mass./The Winchendon School/Bryant) each scored in double figures at Bentley. Davis had 14 points, Wilson and Washington each had 12, and Hernandez contributed 11 points, however no other Le Moyne player scored more than two points. Davis, Hernandez and Wilson each had seven rebounds as well during the loss.
On the season
Xavier Wilson is averaging 7.6 points on 49% shooting from the field, 3.8 rebounds, 0.8 blocks in 17.8 minutes played per game. Over the last four games Wilson has averaged 11.5 points on 56% from the field, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 24.0 minutes per game.
Christian Davis leads the conference in free-throw percentage at 93.8% on 32 attempts so far this season. The 6'6" redshirt-freshman guard is also top five in the conference in made three-point field goals per game at 2.7.
The Assumption University Greyhounds currently hold an 8-7 overall record including a 5-7 conference resume.
The Greyhounds are coming off an 83-81 defeat at home against Saint Rose, but before that earned a 90-70 conference victory over Southern Connecticut State University on January 25.
Graduate point guard Matthew Kelly leads Assumption in scoring with 19.1 point per game. Kelly's 47% three-point field goal percentage on 100 attempts so far this season is the highest percentage currently in the Northeast-10. His 3.1 made three-point field goals per contest is good for third most in the conference. Kelly also averages 4.5 assists 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
Senior forward Omar El Sheikh averages 13.1 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 1.0 block per game for the Greyhounds.
The last three meetings between the two programs have all been lopsided results. Assumption earned a 95-61 victory over the Dolphins at home on February 1, 2020. Le Moyne won the meeting in January 2018 and the one in February 2019, both by over 30 points.
