WOMEN’S TENNIS PICKS UP 7-0 WIN OVER ASSUMPTION

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team registered its third shutout of the season, 7-0, over Assumption University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Skytop Tennis Courts.

The Dolphins claimed the point in the doubles competition for the fourth time. Senior Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) and freshman Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) cruised to a 6-0 win over Caitlin Sze and Aimee Figgins at the first position in their first match together. Sophomore Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and junior Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) registered a 6-3 victory at the second spot over Cara McCormack and Isabelle Edwards in their first match as a team. Freshmen Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) won by default at the third spot as the Greyhounds were unable to fill the position.

Le Moyne won all five matches played in the singles competition in straight sets. At the first position, Simeonova was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over McCormack. Alvarez defeated Sze at the second spot, 6-0, 6-4, while Casares moved to 7-0 in dual matches with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win at the third position over Figgins. Pepper tallied her sixth win of the campaign with back-to-back scores of 6-0 over Edwards at the fourth spot. Sophomore Brooke Tutor (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) also posted consecutive scores of 6-0 over McGeer at the fifth position. Lilliegren won by default at the sixth spot as the Greyhounds were unable to fill the spot.

Le Moyne (4-3, 3-2 NE10) continues its homestand on Sunday against Saint Anselm College at 12:00 p.m.
