WOMEN’S TENNIS REGISTERS 6-1 WIN OVER SAINT ANSELM

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team registered a 6-1 victory over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
 
"Great wins by the women this weekend," said head coach Jeff Lonczak '03. "We mixed things up in doubles and may have figured things out. We're excited for a huge week of high-level competition coming up!"

The Dolphins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles competition for the fifth time this year. At the first position, freshman Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and senior Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) blanked Irene Garbo and Olivia Parzick. Sophomore Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and junior Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) picked up their second win as a duo with a 6-0 victory over Anastasia Kapothanasis and Matilda Briegel at the second spot. Freshmen Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) improved to 5-0 in NE10 play with a 6-3 win at the third position over Camila Heredia Osante and Abigail Svor.

In the singles competition, Simeonova collected her fourth NE10 victory, 6-2, 6-1, at the second position over Kapothanasis. Alvarez tallied her fifth conference win by blanking Parzick at the third spot, 6-0, 6-0. Lilliegren recorded her third straight victory, 6-2, 6-1, over Briegel at the fourth position. Pepper registered her fourth consecutive win by downing Heredia Osante at the fifth spot, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Brooke Tutor (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) improved to 4-0 on the year with back-to-back scores of 6-1 against Svor at the sixth position. Garbo earned the point for the Hawks with consecutive scores of 6-3 over Barona at the first spot.

Le Moyne (5-3, 4-2 NE10) concludes its four-match homestand on Tuesday against Binghamton University at 3:00 p.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
