North Andover, Mass. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team closed out regular season action with a 6-1 victory at Merrimack College on Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins snagged the point in the doubles competition for the eighth time this season. Dzhastina Mikhnova and Nikala Tuffanelli put the Warriors up 1-0 with a 6-3 win over freshman
Stella Simeonova (Sofia, Bulgaria/National Gymnasium of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and senior
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil) at the first spot. At the second position, sophomore
Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and junior
Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) improved to 5-1 with a 6-4 victory over Allyson Nerf and Raya Johnson. Freshmen
Alicia Alvarez (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) and
Paula Casares (A Coruna, Spain/Colegio Maristas Cristo Rey) clinched the point with a 7-5 win at the third spot over Caitlin McLoughlin and Giulia Martins to improve to 10-1.
Le Moyne moved to 3-1 in non-conference action on the year by winning five of the six matches in the singles competition. Simeonova earned her sixth win of the season by defeating Nerf at the first position, 6-3, 7-5. Alvarez collected her seventh victory of the year with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the third spot over Tuffanelli. Casares improved to 11-0 on the campaign by registering a 6-0, 7-5 victory over McLoughlin at the fourth position. Lilliegren was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at the fifth spot over Martins to move to 7-3 on the year. Pepper blanked Luisa Eslava, 6-0, 6-0, at the sixth position to run her record to 11-1 on the year. Merrimack earned its point at the second spot as Mikhnova topped Barona, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
Le Moyne (8-4) opens Northeast-10 Conference Championships action on Wednesday as the third seed against sixth-seeded Saint Anselm College at 12:30 p.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
