Pleasantville, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's soccer team lost their 2022 season-finale match at Pace University by a score of 4-0.
At the beginning of the day the Dolphins had a chance of earning a spot in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, but Saint Anselm and Southern New Hampshire clinched the final two spots in the NE10 tournament with victories during the afternoon, so before Le Moyne's 7:00 kickoff against the Setters it had already been decided that the Dolphins would not be able to qualify for the conference tournament, regardless of the match's result.
Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton),
Lindsey LeBlanc (Westminster, Mass./St. Bernard's),
Marissa Lisikatos (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) and
Hermine Hognerud (Oslo, Norway/Eikeli Videregående Skole) each put a shot on goal during the 90 minutes on Wednesday.
Senior goalkeeper
Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) recorded four saves during the loss. Moreau surpassed the 200 career save mark during the team's 1-1 draw against Adelphi on Senior Day last Saturday.
Senior
Elizabeth Western (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville) made her season debut for the Dolphins, appearing as a substitute in the midfield.
In the 5
th minute Pace played a ball into the right side of the Le Moyne penalty area, and after it took a bounce Andrea Flores attempted a bicycle kick. Her shot hit the left post and the ball ricocheted to the feet of Pace's Ava Viebrock, who took a left-footed shot with her first touch. Viebrock's shot was deflected by Moreau, then kicked off the goal line by
Katelyn Courcy. (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy)
The ball rolled in front of Pace's Allison Carr, who ran onto it and drove the ball into the top left part of the net to give the Setters an early 1-0 lead.
In the 15
th minute LeBlanc got around her defender on the left wing and dribbled diagonally towards goal. She took a shot with her right foot, but it was deflected by a Pace defender and then saved by goalkeeper Anna Fiore.
With a little over 24 minutes remaining in the first half, Hildur Unnarsdóttir (Kópavogur, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) took a corner kick from the right flag and drove the ball into the Pace penalty area. It flew over the group of players in the middle of the box and skipped to the opposite side of the field.
Lisikatos controlled the ball for Le Moyne and was immediately pressured by a defender. Lisikatos made a move to the middle of the field then hit a shot with her right foot towards the right side of the net, but Fiore comfortably made the save to keep the 'Phins scoreless.
In the 27
th minute the Setters went on a quick counterattack and Allison Carr dribbled with Pace across midfield.
Carr continued her run for about 55 yards then beat Moreau with a low shot across the face of goal into the bottom left corner of the net to double Pace's lead with just over 18 minutes remaining in the first half.
With 11 minutes left in the first half, Wilson intercepted a Pace pass within the Setters' defensive third, and LeBlanc was fouled about 28 yards away from the goal.
The free kick was positioned in the middle-left portion of Le Moyne's attacking third, a spot on the field not far from where Unnarsdóttir scored her game-winning free-kick goal in the season opener against Chestnut Hill.
Unnarsdóttir took a shot with her right foot, and it struck the crossbar then went out of bounds.
In the 50
th minute Le Moyne had the ball in the left corner of their attacking third, and Wilson made a move towards the goal line. Her attack was thwarted by the Pace defense, but she persisted and won the ball back in the left side of the penalty area. Wilson took a touch towards goal and with three defenders converging on her she took a shot. The shot was taken from a tough angle, and Fiore was able to come up with the save.
Following a Le Moyne throw in from the left sideline in the 66
th minute,
Lainey Foti (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) won possession in the left side of the box and got the ball to Hognerud, who took a shot from the edge of the six-yard box with her right foot. Once again, Fiore came up with the save to keep Le Moyne scoreless.
Pace's Amber Probasco made a run into the right side of Le Moyne's penalty area in the 67
th minute and hit a hard shot on goal.
Probasco's shot was hit above Moreau's head, but the Le Moyne goalkeeper reacted quickly and knocked the ball above the crossbar and out of bounds for a corner kick.
Probasco found Kelly Dubois in the box during the 74
th minute, and Dubois knocked the ball into the net to extend Pace's lead to 3-0.
Jordan Wooley converted a penalty kick in the 80
th minute to make it 4-0 in favor of the Setters.
The Le Moyne College women's soccer team finishes the 2022 campaign with a 5-8-3 overall record, including a 3-7-2 resume against NE10 opponents.
