Garden City, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's basketball team dropped to 1-1 in NE10 Conference play after falling on the road to Adelphi University by a score of 70-64 on Tuesday.
The Dolphins trailed the Panthers 38-29 at halftime, then Le Moyne outscored Adelphi 15-9 during the third quarter to trim their deficit to three points going into the final period.
Le Moyne took a 52-50 lead with 4:58 left in the fourth quarter following a layup from
Kaia Goode (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney), but Lauren Hammersley hit a three-point field goal at the other end to put the Panthers back in front.
Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) tied the game at 58-58 with 2:50 remaining, but Hammersley answered with her third three pointer of the fourth quarter to make it 61-63 in favor of Adelphi.
Following a
Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) basket in the paint with 2:07 left which trimmed Le Moyne's deficit to 61-60, Adelphi's Ty'zhea Hawkins scored two consecutive baskets to extend her team's lead back out to 65-60, then she converted four straight free throws down the stretch to help the Panthers to victory.
Hawkins scored 10 of her game-high 24 points during the fourth quarter, while Hammersley also contributed 10 fourth-quarter points and finished the game with 21. No other Adelphi player scored more than five points during the NE10 battle.
Adelphi shot 11-23 from beyond the three-point line, compared to just 1-12 for the Dolphins.
Lytoya Baker (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and
Haedyn Roberts (Holland Patent, N.Y./Holland Patent) both recorded a double-double for the Dolphins on Tuesday, and both set a new career-high in rebounds.
Baker scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed a career-high 14 boards, while Roberts tallied 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
Goode finished the NE10 Conference contest with 13 points, four assists, three rebounds and a season-high seven steals.
Lusher tallied eight points, two rebounds and two steals, while
Emily Florvil (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth) provided six points, three rebounds – including two offensive boards in the fourth quarter – and an assist in 14 minutes played off the bench.
The Le Moyne College women's basketball will be back in action on November 30 when they travel to Franklin Pierce University to take on the Ravens.
