Worcester, Mass. – The undefeated Assumption University women's basketball team claimed a 69-56 Northeast-10 Conference victory inside the Laska Gymnasium against the visiting Le Moyne College Dolphins on Sunday afternoon.
Junior guard Molly Stokes led all scorers during the contest, shooting 6-12 from beyond the three-point line to finish the game with 19 points for the Greyhounds. Assumption senior forward Monica Spain was the only other Greyhound player to finish the NE10 battle with at least 10 points, tallying a season-high 18 points (on 5-11 shooting from the field and 7-7 from the three-throw line), 11 rebounds and four steals in 25 minutes played.
Le Moyne senior guard
Lytoya Baker (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) recorded her seventh double-double of the 2022-23 campaign during the defeat. Baker led the Dolphins in scoring, rebounding, and assists with 15 points, 10 boards and three helpers to go along with two steals.
Redshirt-freshman point guard
Sydney Lusher (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) logged a game-high 38 minutes played and was the only other Le Moyne player besides Baker to score in double figures during the team's second consecutive conference defeat, registering 14 points on Sunday.
Graduate guard
Saeeda Abdul-Aziz (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen/Davidson) made her season debut for the 'Phins on Sunday, tallying five points and three rebounds in eight minutes played off the bench.
Sophomore guard
Emily Florvil (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth) was Le Moyne's third leading scorer during the road loss, providing eight points, a team-high three steals, and three rebounds (including two offensive boards) during 14 minutes of action off the bench.
Redshirt-sophomore forward
Haedyn Roberts (Holland Patent, N.Y./Holland Patent) and first-year guard
Sierra Linnin (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) – who made her first career start during the conference matchup – each contributed five points and five rebounds to the Le Moyne cause.
Six different Assumption players scored during the first period as the Greyhounds established a 20-7 lead over Le Moyne following the first 10 minutes of action.
Le Moyne outscored Assumption 19-11 during the second quarter with the help of four points each from Baker and Lusher, along with five points from Linnin.
The two sides each scored 21 points during the penultimate frame, then the Greyhounds beat Le Moyne 17-9 in the fourth quarter to close out the conference victory on their home floor.
Stokes and Spain scored all 17 of Assumption's fourth-quarter points. Stokes tallied seven points – Including two made three-point field goals – during the final period of play, while Spain made six free throws during the final minute of the game and scored 10 of her 18 points during the fourth quarter.
The Dolphins dropped to 5-4 overall and 3-3 against conference opponents following Sunday's loss to the Greyhounds, while Assumption improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in NE10 play.
The Le Moyne College women's basketball team will take a short break from their conference schedule. The Dolphins will play three non-conference games over a six-day period beginning with a matchup at Roberts Wesleyan College against the Redhawks on December 14.
Le Moyne will resume NE10 play on December 31 when they travel to New Haven to battle the Chargers.
