MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS PLACE SIXTH AT ITHACA’S BOMBER INVITATIONAL

Ithaca, N.Y. - Sophomore Belal Aly (Syracuse, N.Y./PSAL at Fowler) registered a first-place finish to lead the Le Moyne College men's swimming and diving team to a sixth-place finish at the three-day, 10-team Ithaca College Bomber Invitational at the Kelsey P. Bird Natatorium. Redshirt sophomore Lily Buchholz (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) recorded a pair of top-10 finishes to lead the women's team to a sixth-place finish.

The University of Rochester was victorious on the men's side by just 18 points with 1575.5 points, while the host Bombers picked up 1557.5 points for second place. Hamilton College was third with 1073, while the Dolphins registered 608.5 points to land in sixth place.

On the women's side, Ithaca captured the team victory with 1641 points, while Hamilton finished in second place with 1445 points. Vassar College placed third with 1238.5 points. The Dolphins recorded 601 points to place sixth.

Aly won the 200-yard freestyle by 0.59 seconds by touching the wall first in a season-best time of 1:43.36. He opened the invitational by placing 13th in the 500-yard freestyle in a season-best 4:52.28. He registered a seven-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best 47.24 seconds.

Senior Charles Morris (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) recorded a trio of top-three finishes. He registered a fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in a season-best 21.36 seconds. On Saturday morning, he placed 12th in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.88 seconds, the second-fastest time of his career. On Saturday night, he recorded a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best 58.28 seconds. He completed his performance at the invitational by placing third in the 100-yard IM in 53.90 seconds.

Senior Joseph Malone (Merrick, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham/SUNY Old Westbury) finished eighth in the 1650-yard freestyle by recording a time of 17:16.81, the third-best mark of his career.

Sophomore Dominic Fratto (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) recorded a 10th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best 53.99 seconds. He placed 14th in the 200-yard backstroke in a season-best 2:04.81.

Freshman Xavier Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) posted a 12th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke in a season-best 2:02.35.

Freshman Keegan Stafford (Charlton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) turned in a 14th-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a season-best mark of 4:29.39. He placed 15th in the 100-yard backstroke on Saturday night in a season-best 54.46 seconds. On Sunday, he finished 13th in the 100-yard freestyle in a collegiate-best 48.20 seconds.

Redshirt sophomore Ryan McMahon (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) touched the wall in 2:17.48 to place 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Freshman Nathaniel Kwait (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) recorded a season-best time of 2:06.86 to place 15th in the 200-yard butterfly.

The quartet of Fratto, Morris, Stafford and Aly placed fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in a season-best 1:36.99. To close out the invitational, with an order of Morris, Aly, Stafford and Fratto, they placed fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a season-best 3:11.33.

Aly, Morris, Fratto and redshirt sophomore Logan Bronecki (Hemlock, N.Y./Livonia) started Saturday morning's competition by placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a season-best time of 1:26.94.

The team of Silaika, Bronecki, sophomore Jason Badalato (Watertown, N.Y./Carthage) and Stafford placed ninth in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:44.07.

Stafford, Aly, Morris and McMahon finished fifth in the 800-yard freestyle relay in a season-best 7:12.87.

On the women's side, Buchholz opened the invitational by placing fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best 5:15.79. She then placed 13th in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.89 seconds, the fastest time in her collegiate career. She capped the weekend by placing 10th in the 100-yard freestyle in a collegiate-best 54.42 seconds.

Senior Madison Zapisek (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) registered a career-best time of 5:17.37 to place fifth in the meet-opening 500-yard freestyle. On Saturday morning, she finished 12th in the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best 1:58.85. She opened Saturday evening's competition by placing 14th in the 200-yard butterfly in a career-best 2:21.13.

Redshirt sophomore Grace Thomas (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) recorded a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke in a season-best 2:11.55.

Sophomore Brenna Horan (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point/SUNY Geneseo) registered a ninth-place finish in the 400-yard IM in 5:02.33. She finished 16th in the 100-yard IM in a collegiate-best 1:07.18.

Senior Caitlyn Longway (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) registered a 10th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in a season-best 24.80 seconds. She recorded a 13th-place performance in the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best 54.78 seconds.

Freshman Riley Brennen (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) placed 13th in the three-meter diving event with a career-best 296.55 points. She finished 14th in the one-meter diving event with a career-best 343.45 points.

Sophomore Hannah Kellogg (Cazenovia, N.Y./Chittenango) turned in a time of 19:01.32 to place 13th in the 1650-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Alexandra Welliver (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira Notre Dame) placed 13th in the 100-yard IM in a career-best 1:06.54.

Senior Genevieve Kikukawa (Kalaupapa, Hawaii/University Laboratory School) tallied a 16th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in a career-best 24.92 seconds. On Saturday evening, she recorded a 14th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best 1:00.90

Redshirt sophomore MaryLauren Burke (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) posted a season-best time of 1:01.25 to place 15th in the 100-yard backstroke.

Sophomore Ella Kaback (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) placed 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a collegiate-best time of 1:10.81.

The quartet of Kikukawa, Kaback, Longway and Burke finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in a season-best 1:50.92.

Longway, Buchholz, Kikukawa and Burke opened Saturday morning's competition by tying for third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a season-best time of 1:39.25.

The team of Kikukawa, Kaback, freshman Brooke Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) and Zapisek closed out Saturday morning's competition by placing fifth in the 400-yard medley relay in a season-best 4:08.25.

Horan, Buchholz, Longway and Zapisek closed out Saturday night's action by placing sixth in the 800-yard freestyle relay in a season-best 8:09.39.

The team of Buchholz, Longway, Burke and Zapisek closed out the invitational by placing fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a season-best time of 3:41.60.

The Dolphins return to the pool on Tuesday, January 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Alfred University.
