MEN’S TENNIS EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO FOUR WITH 6-1 WIN OVER EDINBORO

Erie, Pa. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team completed its weekend sweep in northwest Pennsylvania with a 6-1 win over Edinboro University on Saturday afternoon at the Westwood Racquet Club.

"The all-business mentality of this team is what separates it from all others in the past," said head coach Jeff Lonczak. "Defeating Mercyhurst and Edinboro on the road, back-to-back, is a very loud statement. It's a testament to our leadership. Captain Tom (Jarry) posted a 4-0 weekend as did our favorite mate from across the pond Ethan Miller. Third doubles (Jared Howard and Felipe Cruz) were able to make quick work of very solid opponents, which really set the tone all weekend. We're excited to have a crack at Colgate Saturday and Union on Sunday."

The Dolphins opened the match with a sweep of the doubles competition for the first time this year. At the third position, redshirt senior Jared Howard (Malmesbury, South Africa/Homeschooled/ASA College) and junior Felipe Cruz (San Jose, Costa Rica/Blue Valley School/Saint Louis) were 6-2 winners over Gustavo Martins and Kaio Sacchi. Graduate student Manuel Righi (Bologna, Italy/IPC Manfredi - ITC Tanari/Concordia (N.Y.)/Universita di Bologna) and freshman Peter Hatton (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Club Med Academics/Army West Point) clinched the point by defeating Thibault Dorval and Maksymilian Braziewicz at the second spot, 6-4. Fifth-year Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and junior Ethan Miller (Swindon, England/Cirencetser Kingshill School) completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory over Bruno Sabia and Rocco Palombarini at the first position.

Le Moyne won the first five singles matches to finish to secure the victory. Miller won his fourth match of the year, 6-4, 6-2, over Braziewicz at the sixth position. Hatton gave the Dolphins a 3-0 lead by downing Dorval at the fourth spot, 6-3, 6-2. Junior Kacper Piekarek (Wroclaw, Poland/Autorskrie Licea Artystyczne Akademickie/Missouri-Kansas City) clinched the match for the Dolphins with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the fifth position over Sacchi, 6-3, 6-1. Righi moved to 3-0 as a Dolphin by defeating Martins at the third spot, 6-1, 7-5. Jarry tallied the final point, 6-3, 6-4, over Sabia at the first position. Ruben Acuna collected Edinboro's point by rallying for a 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 10-4 win over Howard at the second spot.

Le Moyne (4-1) is back on the courts on Saturday against Colgate University at Drumlins Country Club at 6:30 p.m.
