MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO STONEHILL, 58-52, IN FIRST ROUND OF NE10 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Easton, Mass. – Andrew Sims scored 24 points, including the go-ahead basket, to lead fourth-seeded Stonehill College to a 58-52 come-from-behind victory over the fifth-seeded Le Moyne College men's basketball team in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Friday night at Merkert Gymnasium.

The Dolphins finish the season with a 12-15 record. The Dolphins only had one player finish with double-digit points in the contest as senior guard Nino Hernandez (Gardner, Mass./The Winchendon School/Bryant) tallied 10 points, while adding six rebounds and a pair of steals in his final game as a Dolphin.

Sims, who missed the regular season matchup between the teams, tallied 15 of his game-high point total in the second half, while grabbing five rebounds in the contest. Isaiah Burnett, who also missed the regular season game, registered 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

After the teams split the first four points of the game, Stonehill scored eight straight points. Christopher Melis scored four of the points to lead the charge.

Following back-and-forth action over the next five and one-half minutes, Burnett scored four straight points to give the Skyhawks their largest lead of the game at 11 points (21-10).

The Dolphins answered back with 19 of the last 21 points of the half to take a 31-25 lead into halftime. Six Dolphins scored in the span, led by five points each from third-year sophomore guard Jeremiah Washington (Chicago, Ill./Bogan/Ferris State) and redshirt freshman guard Kevin Constant (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic/Tilton School).

Stonehill scored 13 of the first 20 points in the second half to knot the score at 38 apiece. Sims tallied eight of the points before Burnett tied the score with a three-pointer.

The Dolphins pushed out to a four-point lead on a pair of occasions before Stonehill countered with 4-0 spurt the first time to tie the score again and a 5-0 jaunt the second time to take the lead on a free throw by Burnett.

The teams exchanged the lead three times before Sims scored with 5:21 left to give the Skyhawks the lead for good. Owen Chose, who had a career-high 29 points in the January meeting, followed with a jumper for his only points of the game.

Third-year sophomore forward Luke Sutherland (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee/Siena/Bryant) made a lay-up with 2:25 left to get the Dolphins within 53-52, but they would not score the remainder of the game. Myles Hanson made a jumper and then the Skyhawks made three free throws in the last 48 seconds to close out the game's scoring.
